I'm giving blood tomorrow but I'm worried about being defferred for iron levels. Is there any way to guess if my iron levels are high enough without getting tested tomorrow? I'm not a vegetarian or anything, but then again I don't check foods for iron to make sure I'm eating it either.

On a quick lipid profile check i find that the total cholestrol is 202 mg/dl, with the LDL being 145.3 and HDL 30.9 mg/dl, and the VLDL being 25.8 mg/dl. It is bad, cos' i think the normal total cholestrol should be only up to 200, and I also know that LDL is quite dangerous, leading to heart diseases. However, I was just thinking on another issue, that I have been having bad throat and cough problems, where I was having a cough syrup which contains diphenhydramine. It wasnt regular, but on and off. Could this trigger or have anything to do with the high rise in the cholestrol level ? I am worried, and I know what I should be doing. But could someone tell me if this is cos' of the medicine or if it is generally cos' of the junk food that i am involved with right now, along with bad timings or intervals of food intake.

Not trying to sound insensitive, but shouldn't people have the sense to know that if you have serious problems like a swollen vagina to the professionals instead of sharing it with the rest of the world.

Anyone who uses NHS services knows - and greatly appreciates - what nurses do. But do you know that these hoards of executives get paid ten times more than nurses? But what do they actually do to earn it? Apparently they 'attend meetings' !! The current NHS crisis is proof positive that they do very little else. At around £280K a year they still need to pay 'business consultants' - at £20K a day - to tell them how to do the job! When I worked in the real world of industry, anyone who fell down on the job was promptly booted out! But this lot get 'performance bonuses'!! It seems that these days bungling incompetance and ineptitude are lavishly rewarded! So what would you do to sort out the NHS - other than the obvious first step of booting out all these executives and taking on more trained nurses.

If you overdose on over-the-counter pills what will happen? Will you die of a heart attack, or just pass out, or just immediately stop breathing or what? Or does it depend on the pill?

My husband believes it is OK to reheat a leftover food several times. He also saves the couple of ounces of milk that remains in my baby's bottle for the next feeding! He thinks reheating that milk is OK too! Why is he right or wrong?

Well a couple months ago I had a pressure like feeling coming from inside my stomach around my belly button. It went away after a few days, and came back about a month later. It went away again, but recently I have had gas (which makes the bloated feeling go away somewhat), and I have had a couple very minor sharp pains (they weren't there for long at all).
Does this sound like anything I should be concerned about? If so what could it be?

I know smoking is bad for you, and I know about all the bad health effects, but is smoking maybe a pack of cigarettes only on the weekends for lets say a year straight going to do you any harm? Basically, would the smoker be worse off than the non-smoker?
