Are meds addicting? Is it hard to quit, once you start?

And how is it different than medicating with drugs or alcohol? Why is it acceptable and others drugs not?

all my nightmares have something in common ever since I was little, some one is attacking me, or trying to rape, kidnap, or hurt me in some way, and there is a slim chance that if I scream loud enough I will be saved I open my mouth to scream and only a wispering sound comes out , then I am crying and trying to scream as this person attacks me, and then I always wake up in a cold sweat with tears on my face to the sound of my own bloody murder screams

what do you think this dream means

I'm just curious what do YOU think

When someone says something at the spur of the moment when all is going good, like something from 2 yrs ago that is still bothering him. I have gotten the shakes from being so scared he will explode at the drop of a dime and sometimes he says things and he will turn around and say he never say it and make you seem like you made it up.IT IS NOT MEMORY LOSS.He will say mean ,viscious things and off the wall things and I am stunned with mis beleive and I get so freaked out i have nothing to say back cause it's so mind boggling? He accuses me of things I don't do and tries to make me give him an answer. Even if I try to give him an answer it's not the truth. I am so confused, 3 years of this and I want someone to tell me what this is? Bi Polar?Extreme Jealousy? Insecure? What I am really looking for is a Medical name for this Illness.

My brother always has terrible thoughts at bed time. Thoughts about torture and death. He is 10 years old and doesn’t watch horror movies or listen to scary stories or anything. This has been going on for about a year and every night he has them. My step-mom, His Mom refuses to take him to a shrink. Where are these thoughts coming from and what **can I do**

After years of trying, and seeing supposedly qualified therapists take totally opposite approaches and reach totally opposite conclusions, I've decided psycotherapists are just guessing at what works and there is no evidence to support anything they do.

The extended-release forms of antidepressants seem to be all the rage these days. All the meds now come with extra letters like XR, ER, and CR. My question is whether the extended-release versions have any benefit over their plain old predecessors? I just changed to Effexor XR after taking regular Paxil for 8 years. Feeling kind of weird still. Maybe I am not used to the much slower release of the chemical yet?

i am curious if anyone else has experienced a severe loss of appetite while taking prozac. i am currently taking 40mg/day and will be going up to 60mg/day in a week or two. my psychiatrist told me weight loss is a side effect of the drug and he is monitoring my weight at each visit. i am more concerned about the day to day effects of a poor appetite, i.e. lack of proper nutrition, fatigue, nausea, body aches, "empty stomach" pains, etc.

I dont know where to begin. I have suffered from depression for probably close to 10 years. I have never believed in using meds. I have had mixed results. Good periods and then bad periods where I would quit my job because I couldnt deal anymore.
I guess my question is what can I expect if I do go on meds? How much will it improve my day-to-day outlook on life? Will I still feel sad at times? Will it improve my anxiety and feeling of hopelessness? What are the side effects? Is there anyone who would not reccommend them? Please help!!

My Boyfriend is abusive to me he has ahistory of unemployment, he is controlling, he beats me physically & emotionally. he makes me feel bad about myself, he has forced sex on me, he as been charged with rape before but was found not guilty. He is so agressive yet he claims he loves me, he has days where he is just flat out mean & rude anything triggers him if I dont move fast enough he will bend my fingers. he never gotten me any gifts he has a lot of negative comments ( then he says he is just joking) about me...last night I got it really bad over nothing in my opinion, he overreacted as usual, noe he says we can go to counceling he wants to work it out. What type of counseling does he need? How can he change? he says he feels bad about beating me because it was not right. How can a person change how can I help him become a better person?

Do you know author of, or have a copy of, the article written many years ago about a Mom who discovers that she has a handicapped child? She says that being pregnant is like preparing for a trip to Paris -- you plan, you study Paris maps and guidebooks, you're prepared for Paris, excited about Paris, then you find out your plane is going to Holland. And you're horribly disappointed -- and jealous of all your friends who went to Paris and brought back photos of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. But while you're in Holland, you find the beauty in the tulips and windmills and you realize that Holland is not Paris, but it can be just as beautiful. So then when her friends showed off photos of their soccer stars and spelling bee champs, she felt just as proud and happy to show photos of her little angel whose accomplishments that day may have just been to string 2 sentences together. Anyway, I'm so anxious to find this article so if you know a link or a source, please let me know!
