i am curious if anyone else has experienced a severe loss of appetite while taking prozac. i am currently taking 40mg/day and will be going up to 60mg/day in a week or two. my psychiatrist told me weight loss is a side effect of the drug and he is monitoring my weight at each visit. i am more concerned about the day to day effects of a poor appetite, i.e. lack of proper nutrition, fatigue, nausea, body aches, "empty stomach" pains, etc.

Yes, it is a side effect of Prozac. I myself use to be on Prozac and I all so had weight and appetite loss. What I did was started taking a multi-vitamin to supplement what I lacked in my diet. And if you are loosing a large amount of weight or you ar concerned try going to a GNC store and buying some weight gainer, it actually taste good. If you want more information try the following link: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-6997-Prozac.aspx?drugid=6997&drugname=Prozac.
Best wishes:)

Typical Side Effects are - headache, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation, weight gain, loss of libido. Most everything but the weight gain and loss of libido usually goes away within a couple of weeks.
Not So Common Side Effects: Rash, 'flu-like symptoms, anger/rage.
Prozac has been found to make a lot of other drugs work better, so use extreme caution when taking other medications. Prozac isn't such a hot idea for anyone with diabetes, and not because of potential weight gain, rather it messes with your glycemic control.

I'm surprised this doctor of yours promised you "weight loss"-nearly all users experience weight GAIN.

Yes, I have lost my appetite. Was not "promised" I would lose weight on it. And it is "not" known to cause either significant weight "GAIN" or "loss" in MOST patients. This is after reading significant material on the drug. It has been around for a very long time.
