Hey.these other answers are really lame. How can you reach out to people if you're lonely and have no friends!!
OK, seriously. You first have to analyze your situation. Do you really have no friends? It's possible! Or is it that you are just not relating to the people around you. Are you really lonely or are you just feeling detached from your surroundings?
The problem with "reaching out" to the others around you is that the best they can do is de-valuate your feelings. If you are feeling lonely and friendless, then that is your reality, and no amount of others who consider themselves "close to you" trying to convince you otherwise will help change that! If anything they can make you feel worse!
I suggest getting into yourself and try to find the cause of your feelings. If they are making your life un-livable, seek professional help.

Hi there..
I think first one needs to know why you are lonely and have no friends.
If you really want help you must be a bit more forth coming.
But let me try...
if you are a young adult, you may be to shy....but I am sure you are getting an education, which means you must be able to read, and write.
You could choose to join a book club, or go to the Library, or become a big brother or sister.
You could also play any number of sports, including swimming, tennis ice skating etc.
Even if you are older you can still join in many in and out door activities.
Some of the more rewarding is voluneering.
Take one step at a time, pretty soon you won't be lonely.
I hope this helps

Yeah try to stay as busy as possible. Fill your day with things to do that make you feel productive, including working, volunteering, exercising, etc. That does NOT include things like TV or eating. Stay active and interact with others.

However, when you're depressed it may be hard to find the energy or motivation to even set up a busy schedule, or to maintain it. If you find it difficult to get started, go to a psychiatrist and ask for some medication to help you at first. You may be able to go off the medication once you get on a roll. Some possibilities are SSRIs (standard antidepressants like Prozac, Effexor, and Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin is also good for anxiety), and Benzodiazepines (Anti-anxiety drugs like Klonopin and Xanax--although these are very addictive, so be wary).

Take a nice long walk, go to a gym, join a volunteer organization, join a church where you can meet lots of nice people. It is not fun to lonely and friendless, so please, do something. Volunteering is a great way to get out and meet people. And you will feel so much better when you are helping other people. And you can't go wrong joining a church of your choice - there are a lot of things going on in churches, and you will be ble to find companionship there. Best of luck to you and I hope you do these things.

Join a club, a church, a pottery class, a scrapbooking class or a gym. Somewhere where there are lots of people looking for social time.

You reach out to others, just like you are trying to do. If you need to talk, you can email me at syndie_in_disguise@hotmail.com. Everyone needs friends. So if you need one, I have enough room for a few more.
