I am rephrasing this question. Just because I am a Doctor, doesn't mean I should stop doing research and stop trying to learn and apply new treatments. I do not believe what the government says about marijuana and that is why I am asking this quesion.

I believe I suffer from too much stress and not a good enough management system for the stress I have, and that alcohol abuse is one of many symptoms.
I've been binge drinking (5-6 drinks) about every 10 days for the last 3 months, where I drink more and faster than is within my values. I've tried to cut back, but only been partially successful.
I've had friends who were in 12-step programs and "treatment," and they describe recovery addicts, emphatically stated B.S., and cult-like behavior on the parts of both the recievers and givers of support. They even describe some of this crap happening with therapists specializing in addiction.
Although I love Dr. Drew from Loveline, I'm sure I would reject much of the methods he would use with me.
Any thoughts?

My father cheated on my mother 12 years ago and decided he wasnt going to speak to me or my brother ever again? Resulting in me having spent the last 12 years being depressed, stressed, unlawful, angry at everyone around me, never been able to hold a job because of all of this, and now its effecting me again cos i just found out he adopted the children of the woman he cheated on my mother with. No matter how hard i try and forget all this something keeps reminding me of him.
Is it possible for me to claim against my father for the effect this is having on my life?

for example, when im outside in the dark coming into my house, ill think of like somebody coming after me with an axe, and and il think of a sniper shooting at me.. then if i go into the house alone, il think theres somebody in there waiting for me. if somebodys there with me i dont feel this way, but i just think its weird.

I'm a loner, but I've always been able to keep myself occupied/distracted, with music, books, films, and recently, keeping fit. These days I'm feeling restless in the evening, less interested in doing anything. Sleep is some relief, but I do tend to have vivid dreams every night, which aren't always welcome.
I've got a shitty part-time job, no money, no love life... I've been on Prozac for a year. I've tried several positive-thinking self-help books, but nothing sems to stick.
My question is: have you been here, and turned your life around? What worked for you?
No religious or insulting answers please.

well I am a single mother of two young children. My oldest who will be 5 next month was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 6 weeks old and my baby just turned one. recently kicked my baby's father out for lying, cheating, and drugs. I had to get rid of my 2 bedroom apartment and move into a 1 bedroom with the kids. I got involved with a man who has always been the love of my life but he left me for family reasons. I feel so depressed and I cannnot control my feelings or my actions. I find myself drinking myself asleep every night and on the weekends I get totally drunk and very upset and sometimes violent toward the people who have hurt me. I don't know what to do any more. I feel like everything I do is wrong. I finally went to my doctor for depression and anxiety attacks, she prescribed me prozac and zanax which has helped. I can't stop the drinking though. I never drink in front of my children though. And I know It's wrong but I dont know what else to do. Am I crazy?

I am in early 20's ...I already feel that some of the nostalgic things that elicited my mood while I was a kid are no longer exciting me . An example is going to my native place swimming in the pond , playing cricket with mah old buddies ... My priority has shifted to my career and nothing else excites me really . Like I just wanna prove myself in a career , Other things like going to a party or a picnic or meet some friends , talk with friends on phone dont excite me... i . I just wanna make money soon and then be happy then make good network of friends...
Did you feel the same ? Can anyone temme if you feel the same when you were 22 ? I am nervous how I will make money but I hope I will do it oneday :)

PS has been tremendously beneficial to my family and myself to assist in mental clarity and plays a role in membrane integrity of the brain. Any advantage to adding small amounts to my infant's formula? Also the DHA and ARA found in formulas now that has been shown to improve eyesight and memory in infants fed breastmilk or fortified formulas (almost every brand has a variety). Would adding small amounts of purified fish oil with EPA/DHA and no extra Vitamin A/E benefit my infant also or could there be digestive issues? Thanks for your advise!
