I use to get repeated thoughts, I am not able to control them. I came to know that it is OCD, which raises from stress.I want to getrid off it, How can I?

Right now the best thing you can do is see a psychiatrist and get on medication. However, there is some sucess with behavioral therapy, but more effectively cognitive therapy. Cognitive therapy gets to the source of the problem, your thoughts. If you can learn to control your thoughts. It is a long and painful process with behavioral therapy. Although it has become more humane in recent years; they used to have some patients rub their hands in feces and touch toliets. Cognitive therapy must be carried out by a expert and will probably take years to complete.

The point is that the easy way out is medication, not that you should take meds only that meds will not 'rid' you of your condition, it will only rid you of the symptoms. For now take meds and see a psychiatrist, ask him about cognitive therapy.

I know your pain and frustration. I don't know if I have been "permanently" cured but my OCD is well under control. When I tell people now about it they can't believe it because I no longer have any symptoms. I used to have it really bad too. I had repeated thoughts, number patterns racing my brain, the inability to allow items to touch each other (shoes, cards, clothes, chairs to table etc.,)certain routines I felt I HAD to follow or something horrible would happen. My whole life was consumed by it and it was hard to get anything done. I had some therapy and the jerk tried to make me have things touch and not allow me to put them back where I "needed" them. I could not handle that sort of therapy. About 13 years ago I started Prozac and it worked well for me, I felt like I had been freed from bondage. Since that time, I have switched to a different medication because the effects of the Prozac seemed to dwindle. I take Zoloft and I am fine, all of that horrible OCD crap is a thing of the past for me. I am not saying that therapy too might not help some people, but for me that was not the key. Therapy aggravated me even further. The medication does not loop me out or make me seem abnormal, most people are suprised to find out that I'm taking anything. I recommend that you talk to your doctor and suggest they try you on a med for OCD. Give it at least 3 or 4 weeks to feel the change and do not get discouraged, if that particular prescription doesn't pan out for you, follow the doctor's advice on switching to a different medicine. Have patience with yourself and believe there is an end in sight. I wish you all the luck in the world!

Medications to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, such as fluoxetine (Prozac) and fluvoxamine (Luvox). A tricyclic antidepressant, clomipramine (Anafranil), also helps relieve symptoms of the disorder. About 80 percent of people with the disorder show some improvement with a combined treatment of medication and behavioral therapy. However, many patients relapse when they stop taking the medication.

I know it can be cured but it takes someone who is willing to try and change and therapy. Look for a therapist in your area who specializes in OCD and make sure you realize it will take time. Best of Luck

There is some medication that can help. It is a chemical imbalance so go to your doctor, it is best to see a psychiatrist to help over come the 'illness'
