Mental Health - July 2006

I have always been emotional, and sometimes I will get strange ideas in my head. Being aware of this, when people ask me what's wrong I say "Nothing." But the idea eats at me, and I am sure it shows in my actions, and expressions.

Today I opened up to my fiancee. Told him everything that was bothering me. Instead of jeering at me and telling me to stop feeling sorry for myself, he listened, gave me a big hug and told me we are partners. Anytime I feel like a failure, or have tons of bad feelings swirling through me, I should come to him and we'll talk things out...find just what is reality and what is imaginary.

I feel so much better.

Does anyone else out there not talk your problems out, and as a result feel worse, and your friends act wary about you because they know something is wrong and don't know what???

Recently I visited Gettysburg and was so attracted to the men and women wearing civil war uniforms and especially to the soldiers that were fireing their big powerful cannons. I have dreams at night of being in the civil war in a recent life of mine. Should I be concerned?

I mean really, where DOES all of the anger and hatred come from? Is it an ego thing? Is it a redneck thing? Is it a "standup for my manhood" thing? Is it a religious thing? Lack of information? Lack of education? Who CARES as long as they aren't hurting you or affecting your life? Why do I know people that want to "string that gay up" for no reason? I really want the REASON-please no smart *** comments...

( then i said) well thats ok if youve got a tv or player in your room we can still have a laugh. ( then she said) we'll stick to the living room, )~and it feels like a bit of a blow rejection that she said this. im already incredibly anxious about tommorrow as i stuggle with my self esteem. plus if you read my other questions you'll no i have other mental health problems. im thinking once she gets to no me properly and she sees my extreme low self opinion, i'll get rejected~and rejection is somethin i take very hard as im already lonley person with lonely life and alone

For me, when I am depressed I either eat a lot or do not eat at all. Exercise and good friends always relieve the symptoms..

I cannot throw anything away that looks like an animal or person, or if it has moving parts. Sometimes I even find it hard to throw away a totally inanimate objest if I have had it for a long time. ie.a toaster, even if it doesn't work I feel obligated to repair it because in my mind it has somekind of "life" in it. Let me know . I would like to know if this is way out there, and I should seek proffesssional help.

I made the stupid mistake of quitting a very good job in the heat of anger. I have made every attempt to get my bosses to change their minds, but its a done deal. How do I get past beating myself over this and move forward with my life?

I have autism and I get bullied alot at school because I sometimes do things that people don't understand. I think that something should be done about this, but whenever someone talks to those people about it, they lie. Does anybody else think the way I think about this?

She is 24 years old now and cannot talk. When she is annoyed, she will have violent tantrums by suddenly gripping another person's hair then banging her head on his head. What should we do? We are from the Philippines.

I've been feeling like there're no sense to my life. Feel tired all the time.Sometimes I feel like if I know anything, like out of place. Its hard for me to socialize. After work,I go home so tired and exhausted that the only thing I do is to sleep. So,I don't go out anywhere at night with a girl or something. I don't even have sex relations for a very long time. I am always alone because I think no one want to hang around with me. At times I feel fears and panic and really don't know why. I am always thinking how can I get rid of all this but I find no answer to this. Could you help me ?

to continue a pregnancy when you know that the child will be severely disabled, and if so where do you draw the line. If we sentenced a criminal to spend the rest of his life with Downs Syndrome we'd be seen as inhumane

I'm curious if any of you might know what could be wrong with me? Have any of you experienced this?

I just got married 6 months ago...we didn't live together before, but we spent weekends together. Apparently, since the beginning, I am occassionally abusive to him when I'm asleep... kicking, hitting, shoving, and even went as far as pushing him off the bed the other day (although, I still think the kittens had help with that!). I have no idea what I'm doing because I'm out cold.

We have a queen size bed. We know we need/want a king size, but don't have the money right now.

Also...he tends to try to cuddle with me a lot...which can be nice, but he tries it all the time...not sure if it's just getting to me on nights when I need my space.

Finally...we are both under a TON of stress...

Could this be signs of a sleep disorder? How do I get over it? What has worked for you?

Serious answers only, please.

All the solutions I hear, including forcing yourself to think of other things like the furniture around you, don't really help very much. You can't block out your thoughts forever, and that's not really how confident people think. Even if I realize intellectually that other people aren't paying attention, it doesn't really make a difference emotionally, since it's not a switch that you can just turn on and off at will.
