It's a very common problem for autistic people so the number should include whatever percentage of the population (no matter which pop. you're trying to figure out) has been diagnosed with some for of Autism.

Some of the other answers for this question are totally off of the point! This isn't going to be much better as I have no idea of the % other than that I thought it happened to everyone. There is always a song in my head, and know that all my friends do usually too. but its not like a hallucination. I have hallucinated hearing music or a noise before and its scary! (no I wasn't on acid!) You kind of know its not real, but wonder where it came from, because you weren't thinking about it before it happened. !?!?!?!?! Hope this makes sense!

I'm not sure of percentages but hearing problems are on the increase-- with old age etc the most common is as you described 'tinitus' or ringing in the ear.
Its when you have been exposed to loud music for a period of time-- like when i used to go clubbing, i would come out of there and not be able to hear anything but ringing..

Tinnitus is a disorder where you hear noises, usually whistling or hissing or something similar, permanently in one ear or both or in your head. It is not music but noise and it can be very distressing. It can vary in it's extremity and can be so bad as to affect balance.
Tinnitus affects 17% of the population (from a deaf awareness course I have done).
If you are talking about actual music I'm not sure what you mean.

Some of the best classical composers heard music in their heads, and wrote it down. Do you play an instrument or know how to do music notation? Maybe you are gifted!
For me, I hear music only when my fan is running, and I can never quite place what the song is but it sounds familiar. It drives me nuts trying to figure it out.

if you have braces or even metal dental fillings you can actually be picking up radio signals, my brother held the ends of the wires to his gituar amp and you could clearly hear the radio station and he was the only reciever. the amp was not plugged into anything but his hand.
