I have autism and I get bullied alot at school because I sometimes do things that people don't understand. I think that something should be done about this, but whenever someone talks to those people about it, they lie. Does anybody else think the way I think about this?

People often criticize what they don't understand, and make fun of people that are different., because they are ignorant and unsympathetic. I have always been perceived by others as being "an outsider", because of the way I act, so I can certainly empathize. In spite of that fact, no student has a right to bully any other student. You should have a talk with the school principal, and discuss the problem you're having. Or maybe just talk to your parents. In the meantime, it's best to ignore the bullies, and walk away. You may be far too outnumbered, and a fight (or some other personal confrontation), would just cause you more trouble. Hang in there, my friend.

It is very wrong.I am assuming you are high functioning or Aspergers. Sometimes it is hard for other kids to realize that you have a autism because it is a hidden disorder. You are not blind, or in a wheelchair, or walk with cruthches.Your quirks and your reactions to differant stimulis because of your sensory issues will make kids think you are strange and differant.
It would be wonderful if your school could do autism awareness .Educate the students on autistic spectrum disorders. It would help the kids understand you and the others in your school with it.My sons school does this.
I am sorry the kids lie, of coarse they will.I don't know what to tell you other than ignore them.I know its hurtful.
I think the most important thing you can do is go through SOCIAL SKILL classes.Talk to your parents about it.You an find out about them through your local autism society or autism specialist you may work with.Your school should offer theses as well .They really do help. They have helped my son, he has been doing them for three years. They will help you learn to understand people better and how to react appropriatly.
Good luck.Remeber you are special and gifted .

Yes. Are you certain that you have autism? You may have Aspergers, but all the same it is not acceptable for you to be picked on at school and something does need to be done about it. Ask your parents to come in to speak to the principal about the schools policy on bullying and pastoral care. If its happening in school then there should be ways it can be addressed through the school.

I work with students that having learning disabilities and behavioral issues. Many of my students are on the high end of the autism scale.

I understand what you are going through and it's not right, but unfortunately until those people are educated about autism, it will continue...and what's even more unfortunate is that even if they are educated they won't stop.

I know that it can be hard but let their words roll off of you like water on a duck's back. And don't be afraid to speak up to your teachers (even if they claim they didn't do it).

I absolutely agree. There are a lot of people who judge and dismiss those with mental disabilities, and this is just as wrong as mistreating a person because of the color of their skin or their ethnic background. Unfortunately, this type of discrimination and cruelty is rarely addressed.

So sorry that people have to be that way. There are decent people in this world, just have faith. As for the ones bullying you, you don't need them anyway.

Yes definitely. Try to seek help from your school's guidance counsellor or find friends who would understand your situation. It is never too late. You know, there are many autistic people who are now successful in their own careers. Do not lose hope!!!! Pray and study hard. Let them see who is winning......

Kids can be very cruel..People overall are good..Kids in your school lack the maturity to understand autism and one day they will realize how cruel they have been to you.

Bullying is wrong.

Bullies are very insecure. It becomes easy to find fault with others. They are afraid to look at their faults. We all have them.

Remember: People who bully are the weakest of them all.
