For several years now, the dr. has been treating me for allergies. BUT even when I take the meds as directed, I still come down w/respiratory infections, at least once per year. On top of that, I take thyroid medication, a daily vitamin, and additional iron supplements yet I'm still exhausted when I get home from work. (The last time I went to the dr he said I was "down a pint," meaning that there is a low red-blood cell count, as I underestood.) Also, I haven't been able to smell anything or taste anything for months now--everything tastes/smells like either wet sawdust or ashes, whether I cook it or eat out, whether it's gas being pumped into the car or flowers. Any comments?? TIA.

I saw a doctor who reported I have polyneuropathy, however, when another doctor did an emg, it turned out normal so he said it completly rules that out. What are the criterias for polyneuropathy? Do the feelings come and go or are they constant?

My dad has severe arthritis, he is 52 and has had it since he was 30. He has had umptine joint replacements but one in particular is causing alot of problems. Over 3 years he has had 4 knee replacements in the same knee as it keeps getting infected. The docs were treating the problem with MRSA drugs for a while but they have diagnosed the infection as yeast growing in the joint. Apparently he is the only person in UK with this. Has anyone heard of anything like this?

My mum's 43 year old and has chronic kidney disease for the past 14 years. She is healthy and normal. The doctor says she suffers from a kidney infection and hence her kidney has been damaged. Her damage is progressive. For the past 5 years, her BUN level has been around 90 and creatinine around 2.3 to 2.4. Her recent blood test showed that her BUN was still 90 and creatinine increased to 2.8. Her haemoglobin has also decreased to 9.1 from 9.8. The doctor says she is OK as her WBC was low and hence her kidney infection was under control. However, I am scared as I read in the internet that increasing creatinine level shows increasing kidney damage. I am really scared and want to know whether my Mum is OK? I trust the doctor as he has successfully kept my mum's kidney disease under control for 14 years. She has decided to take another blood test 2 days later. But, at what creatinine level is dialysis required? Is my Mum really OK?

I am a 24 year old female. I found knots in my ankle last year and finally went to the doctor in January 07 sent me to an orthopedic surgeon and he gave me a steroid shot. Then two weeks later he gave me a brace to wear for 3 weeks and then wean myself off of it. And if I felt better not to bother coming back. Well I didn't go back. A month and a half later I woke up with a swollen ankle about the size of an apple. I have had no injury that I know of. The doctor at urgent care did a rheumatoid arthritis test and sedimentary test and an ana test. Everything came back negative but the inflammation test was 36 and should have been between 0-10. I wake up with no swelling and it swells throughout the day. Does anyone have any ideas?

A recent stay in hospital led me to gain possession of my medical notes, on looking through them I found that I apparantly had Kawasaki's disease as a child, I asked my mother about this and she knew nothing about it.
After looking it up I have found that it is a potentially serious childhood illness that someone would be hospitilised for, my mother insists I have never had this disease let alone spent more than an afternoon in any hospital as a child!
I wasn't too bothered about it but she has pointed out that if there is this kind of error in my notes what else could they have got wrong? does anyone know how I can go about investigating this further?

Our local vaccination clinic advises a pneumonia shot for everybody once every five years. They also charge the earth for it. I read on the internet that the vaccine is just once in a lifetime, except for people who have serious health problems. Which is correct? Thank you.

She could recognize letters and numbers by the age of two without us helping her, she was slow to walk, and her behavoir as an infant was unusualy mild. She is four now and very "book smart" but, i have wondered about her social skills. She has been in pre-school, dance, and sports but, she has a hard time fitting in because of her behavior. She is always in other kids space. She struggles with conversation and will ask a question over and over. Ex.how old are you? She is having troble with moter skills ex.writing, following directions ex. put the blue sock in the drawer. She still doesn't consistantly play with her sister a year and a half younger than her (who is following directions better than her). She has acted differnt than the children her age???please help.

It is only on my left side under my jaw line where that lymph node is. It feels like I'm being stabbed and I can't move that side of my body for about thirty seconds and then it goes away. It has been occurring about every 2-3 hours. I obviously know I need to go to the doctor, I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this or knows what it could be. Thanks!

I am struggling to come up with another answer. We see a specialist on Monday, but in the meantime I am beside myself. My 19 month old baby girl has a VERY inflamed knee and is having trouble walking, she also has an unexplainable butterfly pattern rash on her face. All symptoms point to Lupus or Juvenile Arthritis, but PLEASE help ease my mind by coming up with something else it could be.

I asked my gyno about a hemorrhoid tag that i've had for a year, and she told me that it won't go away on its own and they only way to get rid of it is surgery. Is this true? It's not painful, but I do feel self-conscious about it.

My palms get sweaty, I honestly feel like I have no control over whats going on and it usually freaks me out and I feel like Im going to die or something. I have been to the hospital 2 times and to a couple doctors. I just dont know what to do anymore. I would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks!

ok look i always had a dark kind of blueish mark on my skin on my knee. the dot is about 2-3 millimeters, but always bugged me. I noticied this about six years ago and last knight i finally picked at it and broke the skin over the color. now the skin on top of the area is gone and it appears to be some what of a scab in color, but it is not. when i touch it i get a tingly sensation run down to my foot, what is this?!?

My brother in law , 6 years ago had about 70% kidney function left. Now one is shut down and the other is at 40% . He had surgery this morning to help stop further shut down. No guarantees. He needs a transplant, however and unfortunately the family is reluctant to donate because his problem was casued from drinking , and we know that he will not stop. The family has basically said "why give one up when he is going to ruin that one too" Kind of harsh and said, but I can see the point. My question is how long can someone go on with this type of damage without having a transplant?

Recently, but very occasionally, i have been feeling like something is stuck in my throat or that something is going up my throat, but nothing was there. While that happens, my chest really hurts-is it heartburn? I just almost threw up a minute ago, it was in my mouth and everything. I was bending down to plug something in, and i guess i burped, but i started to vomit. It never left my mouth, but shortly after, my mouth started watering like i was going to barf again. Does this have anything to do with acid reflux, and does it sound like i even have it?

My mom has acid reflux, and doctors thought my sister did also, but they were wrong. My dad doesn't have it.
