The hens are in a 5' by 4' by 4' henhouse and have a 4' high 6'long run enclosed with chicken wire. Should I build a frame and put netting over it to prevent wild birds making contact with them? Can I have them vaccinated?

How much do we really understand about the way potentially harmful bugs work and what's the consequences?
Every day we work with high risk areas in respect of infection control and it's interesting to me just how little people really know.
The latest outbreak of Bird Flu in Norfolk has received a great deal of publicity and we are constantly reading about MRSA and Clostridium Difficile and how people are being infected in hospitals.
The trouble is that you can't see bugs so the perceived danger is very low. Overuse of antibiotics for many years has affected our ability to fight infections and bugs mutate and change constantly creating new strains.
If you could see bugs then awareness would be heightened.
As an infection control professional I spend every day alerting people to the risks associated with bacteria, viruses, spores etc.
I'm quite happy to provide factual information and guidance to anyone wanting to know more. Simply email info@anubishealthcare.com

How can turkeys held in a sealed farm have caught H5N1? According to experts, it’s a total mystery how the virus reached the turkeys

There is no bird migration route that would explain the disease coming to England from known infected nations (mostly Asia)

It’s not the time of year that birds would migrate to Britain anyway.

No other H5N1 outbreaks have been reported, which further rules out migrating wild birds.

The turkeys originated in a hatchery and have never been off-site in their life or contacted wild birds.

The turkey shed, like most buildings in which turkeys are raised, is fully sealed.

So how did the turkeys catch H5N1? Either Bernard Matthews has an enemy that uses poison, or it's a mystery.

Bird flu has killed some birds in the uk. The bird flu strain H5N1 that was found is the same strain that has killed 124 people in asia. There has been cases just like this reported in europe of the same strain but they have all been contained which means that this case is just going to be a warning to britian. But as the summer gets closer will there be an out break of bird flu in the uk? All we can do is wait... If the strain does manage to get to humans in the uk I am going straight to the super market and doing a 300 Pound shop and not coming out of my house intill it clears..! You might think that im stupid for doing that but I love my life and dont want it taken by a turkey! I want to hear your thoughts on this as it matters. I dont want to scare people but this is something we need to perpare for...

That scarlet fever is caused by an infection with group A streptococcus bacteria. The bacteria make a toxin (poison) that can cause the scarlet-colored rash from which this illness gets its name. Not all streptococci bacteria make this toxin and not all kids are sensitive to it.
If left untreated, scarlet fever can lead to blindness and heart damage. This is why people used to go blind and or die from it.
