it is supposed to prevent the flu. and supposedly, they try to put out the flu shot for the prevelant strain for that year. maybe you came in contact with a different strain than the prevalent one, or maybe the scientists missed their mark this year.. I have heard that the different flu strains stay gone for 3 years after they run through and then come back. that is how they know which one to put out a vaccine for, frankly i don't put much trust in the whole thing
FYI
there is an herb that they claim is antiviral. It is elderberry and is available in lozenges with zinc. try taking it through flu season next year, starting late October through beginning March. I haven't gotten the flu since I have been doing this, and neither have my kids

No, the scientists did not miss the flu strain this year? Their are new flu viruses coming up envery year and it is impossible to catch them. The peurpose of the flu shot is to help you in the possible elimination of getting it. The shot that you received 90 days ago will only protect you from the strains that were presrnt last year and next years shot will cover the strains present this year. It is possible that people will get the flu even though you had the shot. The shot won't eliminate you from getting it but will help you fight it off better.

Despite what another answer said, the shot will not prevent you from getting it. It may also shorten the symptoms. If for example you did not get the shot and 90 days from now you get it, you may have it for a week. However, if you got the shot and you get the flu, you may only have symptoms for a few days. You can also feel sick within hours of getting the shot but that in no way means you have the flu.

I did not get the shot this year and I have been flu free. Frequent hand washing and coughing and sneezing into the upper part of your sleeve, will stop the germs from transmitting to other people. If you don't have regular access to soap and water, use the antibacterial gel that you see in the stores.
