I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I want to know if it's possible to 'develop' this condition at an point in life. Like if I had my EKG and echo 2 years ago and it's fine, can my doctor find I have this condition 2 years later? Or can I just get it at any point? I looked at sites like wikipedia and it just talks about what it is, the diagnosis... but I'm wondering if anyone can get it at any time? Thank you.

I read a report on this site from quoting A study by UK NICE
indicating that persons taking atenolol for hypertension should stop immediately. My cardiologist says that is a lot of bull.
I have been on atenolol for many years with very good resuslt in controlling rapid heart rate. Anyone else have more info?

I've been under a lot of stress lately (work issues, planning a wedding, buying a house, etc.) and last night when I was out walking my dog something weird happened to my heart. It felt the same as it does when it changes it's rythm but it did it three times in a row. My chest hurt, I got dizzy and it was hard to catch my breath for a few seconds. I was fine as soon as it stopped, a little shaken up but physically I felt fine.

Is this from the stress? I've had it happen before when I've been pretty stressed but never three times in a row like that. Is it something I should talk to a doctor about?

For the record, I'm a 23 year old female, eat well, exercise often, I suffer from seasonal allergies (they're pretty bad) and asthma.

Thanks in advance!

About 5 minuts after this i was fine though. That is the worst one i have had so far though. Can anyone tell me if there is a link between diabetes and hypertension?

I had a health screening last friday and because I have a big upper arm the nurse used a large cuff and my BP was scarily high (140/104). Today I got it measured at a blood pressure kiosk with a "normal" sized cuff and it was better (123/84).

I know both readings are high but I'm trying to track it to help decided if I want to take medication or not. I'm already trying to lose weight which I know will bring it down.

My dad just passed away on Monday...massive heart attack. He would have been 43 this Wednesday. A couple of years ago, his brother passed away of a massive heart attack at the age of 39. Thier mom passed away of a massive heart attack when she was 42. My uncle went to the doctor the day before he died. The doctors told him they couldn't find anything, and sent him home. The next morning, he had a heart attack and died. According to the doctors, there is no disease, or anything. I'm wondering if it's a sure thing that in like 18 years I will die of a heart attack. How likely is that to happen? Also, my brother is 21, and is already having, not "problems", but issues with his heart. Do you think this is the definate way we will both go???? Just curious to know your opinions, since doctors don't seem to have any... Thank you!

I am a 16 year old female who is 5'5 and weights 128 lb. Just recently I've been experiencing chest pain right above my rib cage and on my sternum. It's more of an aching pain and it's kind of sharp. I have a history of mitral valve prolapse, heart murmur, and hypertension. I am intending on seeing my doctor (no, I'm not going to be stupid and leave something that could be serious up to Yahoo! Answers) but I'm just looking for a quick answer as to what it may be.

Thanks.
:)
