My cousin is only 49, and has recently suffered a stroke...his Mother also died very young of a heart attack, it does run on his maternal side, however my Uncle also died of heart complications, do you think that you are "predisposed" to suffer this horrible medical problems if they run in your family? Also I would want to know about any of your personal experiences....Thank you!

Well this morning around 7 my mom had to call the ambulance because my dad was coughing up phlem and there was blood in it. He had a gargle in his throat. We both knew it was his CHF. But what caused him to have blood in his phlem? My mom said something about the doctor thought it might be an artery clot. Can someone tell me what that is?

I'm 31 and a smoker. I've had a dull pain on the left side of my chest for the last 3 days. I got an ECG done, which came out as normal, and the doctor told me that it would probably be just a muscular pain. Not satisfied, a few hours later I went to another hospital. ECG again was fine. This doctor also assured me that it's not a cardiac problem. My arm doesn't hurt, I don't feel breathless, and I don't feel exhaustion. However, The pain is still there, and I'm still worried. Can anyone suggest what further course of action I can take?

I was wondering what causes Tachycardia....I have havd this random rapid heartbeat my whole life, but recently it has become very bad. My mother talked to her heart doctor and he said he's sure its a type of tachycardia....I can't remember what type. But I was wondering what can cause this? Are there any STDs that cause it? Just curious...although this happened before I have ever been "active" just not as much and severe. Also, how do they test for tachycardia? I am very afraid of going and getting tested/evaluated. Thanks!

I've been getting light-headed like this just recently. I haven't changed my diet or anything. Sometimes I black out so much I have to sit down on the floor. I'm not pregnant or anything either.

My normal is usually around 114/78 or so. Yesterday it was 80/64. The nurse asked me if I was feeling ok. She said it was around passing out level. Should I be concerned? Will it adjust its self? If my top # goes up and my bottom dont, what does that mean?

My husband's father & his fathers 2 siblings all had abdominal aortic aneurysms(sp?). My husband's father was 63, his aunt is about 78; his uncle was about 72 when diagnosed. My husband had a stomach ultrasound approximately 4 years ago. There were no signs of an abdominal aortic aneursym. His mother and her side of the family have no abdominal or any kind of aneurysms. What are my husband's chances of getting this?

I have been having problems sleeping, an uneasy feeling accompanied by bouts of chest tightness and increased heart rate when i try to sleep. I went to my GP who said the symptoms were stress related as I had chest pains and a pressure headache which have now ceased. Recently I have developed a build up of mucus that is lining the back of my mouth and throat. I am not wheezing and do not have a cough, there are no apparent areas of swelling on my body. When i physically exert myself i have no pain, I have a slight noticable increase in heart rate, more than before but thats it. I have had an ECG which was fine, is an ECG enough to diagnose heart failure on its own? any ideas about what else it could be?
