Stress is a normal part of life. But if left unmanaged, stress can lead to emotional, psychological, and even physical problems, including coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, chest pains, or irregular heart beats.

How Does Stress Contribute to Heart Disease?
Medical researchers aren't sure exactly how stress increases the risk of heart disease. Stress itself might be a risk factor, or it could be that high levels of stress make other risk factors (such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure) worse. For example, if you are under stress, your blood pressure goes up, you may overeat, you may exercise less and you may be more likely to smoke.

If stress itself is a risk factor for heart disease, it could be because chronic stress exposes your body to unhealthy, persistently elevated levels of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. Studies also link stress to changes in the way blood clots, which increases the risk of heart attack.

Stress causes the heart to pump faster because of the nervous condition and the need for extra oxygen in different parts of body. BY pumping faster the muscles start losing the elasticity and eventually the heart won't be able to keep up, if the stress remains for a long time.
I just made all of this up but sounds good :)

In some people stress causes a rise in blood pressure. During those rises you add stress to the heart muscle and take the chance of loosening plaque that may be built up in your arteries.

Deal with your stress, exercise and eat right to avoid heart problems.

During moments of stress, your body will consume lots of oxygen to cope with it. Your blood is the medium of transport for oxygen, and so your heart has to pump volumes of blood to these different organs to supply them with what they need. If stress is left unmanaged, your heart will have difficulty resting and it will continue the same actions it does even at moments of rest. As a result, the heart may enlarge, valves may have difficulty closing and opening, and beats will become irregular or abnormal. There's your heart problem :)
