For circulation. You want the blood to circulate so as not to get blood clots. You also do not want 'bed sores' from lying in one place too long.

It is a good idea to walk when you have been bedridden for awhile because you need to get your blood to circulate so as not to get blood clots.
I was in the hospital not too long ago and didn't push myself to get up and walk. I must tell you I would rather walk it off now than getting the shot for blood clot. Not only the shot hurts alot, it left me big bruises everytime they gave me the shot.

Actually the longer they are immobile the more likely they are to get blood clots in their legs, a possible life threatening condition.
They avoid bedsores and the muscles do not waste away as fast.
It is also much better for their moral if they can run around being a nuisance and getting lost.

You want to get the patient up and walking to prevent the blood circulation from being impaired. Walking is important to increase blood circulation, which is good for healing.

the main reasons are to prevent bed sores,blood clots and also when a patient is bed ridden their breathing can become compromised.so to ensure that respiratory infections and complications dont set in, the patient must get mobile asap.this is very important.

The longer the body lays in bed, the faster things begin shutting down. Mentally and physically. Bed sores set in, depression sets in, all kinds of things start to go wrong.
