I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I want to know if it's possible to 'develop' this condition at an point in life. Like if I had my EKG and echo 2 years ago and it's fine, can my doctor find I have this condition 2 years later? Or can I just get it at any point? I looked at sites like wikipedia and it just talks about what it is, the diagnosis... but I'm wondering if anyone can get it at any time? Thank you.

I think this very small topic will help you out:

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This type involves abnormal growth or thickening of your heart muscle, particularly affecting the muscle of the left ventricle. As thickening occurs, the heart tends to stiffen and the size of the pumping chamber may shrink, interfering with your heart's ability to deliver blood to your body. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can develop at any age, but the condition tends to be more severe among those diagnosed during childhood. Researchers have identified abnormal genes that predispose people to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Most affected people have a family history of the disease.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a complex but relatively common form of genetic heart muscle disease that occurs in 1 out of 500 people, but often goes undiagnosed in the community, and has caused some confusion to both patients and physicians periodically over the years. HCM is the most common cause of heart-related sudden death in people under 30 years of age, and it can also be responsible for exercise disability at almost any age. HCM occurs equally in both sexes and has been reported in many races. Although HCM is a chronic disease without a known cure, a number of treatments are now available to alter its course. caused by mutations in any one of 10 genes and appears in 50% of individuals in each generation.

You can get this from a virus or from an infection. Anything that makes the heart workharder like these or high BP can cause this. Yes it is easily developed and can occur in anyone. I recently was diagnosed after my primary dr. took me off the medications my heart dr. had me on. It took 1 month! Needless to say I changed Dr's. This can cause a small problem or a big problem. It is a leading cause of heart transplants in younger people. Follow up with your cardiologist as needed. If you think you might have this follow up now. An echo can determine the course of treatment.

Hypertrophied myopathy means the enlargement of the muscle mass of the heart leading to minimise the internal capacity of the heart chamber and also thickening of the muscle will lead to insufficient contraction of the heart chamber to expel the blood !!This is most commonly seen in the patient of the hypertension and also suffering anemia for along standing and beriberi disease! !There may be some viral infection also leading to cardiac myopathy.2D echocardiography and simple EKG will give to clue to diagnosis !There is now a day operation can be done in certain selected cases to make this enlarged muscle mass dissected out to make chamber to a normal size for better functioning of the heart !Always YouRsmE
