My son is only 5 years old and he is diagnosted ITP last year since then, he is addmitted in hospital more than 4 times. His platelets go down as low as 8000. Doctors gave him alot of different medicine but each time he treated his platelets jump to around 80,000 or sometime cross 100,000 but within a month or two it comes down. we are riding in a roller coaster since then. We are giving him chiness herbs too since last 6 months but nothing is working.

I have had high cholesterol for 15 years. 3 mths ago it was tested at 254. I went on Cholestoff (4 pills a day) and Niacin (2, 500 mg a day) guaranteed to lower and it went up 10 points to 264 3 months later. I'm at my witts end. I have tried eating only low cholesterol foods. Anyone have a suggestion. I don't want to take statin drugs. Thanks

Asking for a friend. She is 65 with high cholesterol - 257. A couple of years ago she tried to take Lovastatin to correct the cholesterol. But it seemed to also cause depression. The depression went away when she went off the Lovastatin. But now the cholesterol is higher. Is there another statin that perhaps would not have the depression side effect? She's trying to go vegetarian to lower cholesterol without drugs at this point and I guess this has her doctor's blessing. Thanks.

My mum is on 10mg a day of Amlodipine. Every time she goes to see her GP, her blood pressure is high about 165/90, but when she gets home and monitors it herself, it's always normal between 111-131/70-80. She has a pulse rate of around 90-95. What I'd like to know is, are these home monitors reliable? If so, why is her BP high when she sees her doctor, but not when at home?

I am currently experiencing problems with dreadful pain in my lower legs which doesnt abate with rest, swelling of my hands and feet, sometimes severe difficulty swallowing. I have had two previous DVT's both treated with 12 weeks of coumadin and heprin injections. I have also noticed a lump growing in my right arm which in the space of a month has gone from the size of a pee to a golf ball and causes some problems with bending, straightening and pins and needles...could these problems be connected?
