my mom is diagnosed with diabetic nephropathy. her urologist told her that she has only 51% of her kidneys that is functioning well but she is not yet in the stage of having a dialysis. is there any cure for my mom's condition? my mom refused to have a kidney transplant or a dialysis (she thinks she's too old for that and she thinks that she would suffer more) in the future if the time comes that both of her kidneys deteriorates already. what should she eat? what diet should she take? what is the best thing to do now? thanks a lot.

He is on a waiting list for a kidney and pancreas..He is constantly sick,in the er, falls and hurts himself etc..This latest "thing"is that his tongue has developed black ulcers. The doctors say its an infection. He says its very painful and he cant speak very well due to the swollen condition and soreness. my dad did a small hospital stay a few months ago for a small stroke and his blood sugar was 450. since then he has lost over 100 pounds and off the insulin. his blood sugar is around 80-90 and still under 100 after he eats. is this too low? i've heard both sides( just right and too low). he does get these dizzy spells often when we work. does this cause them. he is 6ft tall and 240 pounds now if this helps.

I was diagnosed last year with type 2 diabetes and have been treating it with metformin (currently 1000mg/day) as well as trying to eat healty (low-carb, high protein) and staying active.

Since diagnosis I have lost 25 pounds (quite easily without a lot of change in my habits - I was already quite active and eating well), but my BS numbers have not really improved, in fact they seems to be rising, despite doubling my medication. In the morning it is usually about 130-150, and 2 hours post meal it is often over 200, and occasionally over 300. I am starting to wonder about it being type 2 since I seem to not have any of the risk factors or indications...

I'm 23, weigh 125 pounds (I'm 5'5"), I'm active, and have absolutely no family history.

Anyone have any ideas? thanks!

I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes at age 39, six years ago and this summer went on Lantus insulin once a day. I want to get completely off all the meds I am on. I want to talk to someone who has actually done it. Anyone out there a former user of insuling, glucophage and avandia who is now controlling it just with diet and exercise. I am soooo down about being on insulin and want to make some drastic changes. need advice. maybe even alternative medicine advice. thanks.
