My husband, insulin dependant, want to stop drinking diet sodas because he wants to avoid artificial sweeteners and, after drinking diet coke all his life, he's having a heck of a time finding a beverage to replace the diet soda. He's open to ice teas, has tried some, but is there anything else out there that might take the place of the diet soda? Or come close? I think he's after the bite that soda gives. Thanks to all!

I'm 18 years old and have been diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes for 5 months now. I exercise daily and my BG's are in control. I am turning 19 in a couple of weeks and me and my sisters would like to get matching tattoo's on our feet (because it's easy to hide if needed and the skin doesn't stretch so much there). I was just wondering if any other diabetics have tattoo's on their feet and if it has caused any problems.

I am a type II diabetic and at the moment I take 45 units N in the morning and evening and then am supposed to use the R insulin on a sliding scale. I asked for verification of that scale and she said it is different for everyone. SO, my question is this...Say when I wake up in the morning and I take my blood and it is 138, I take my normal 45 units N....but I know I am going to eat breakfast and my sugar is going to go up. (even if I eat "good for me" food) So, should I take some R, and if so how much. (I weigh 250 right now) I DID ask a lot of questions, but did not get real difinitive answers, and will try again, but in the mean time...maybe someone who lives with this can give advice? When I eat, my blood sugars go up, so should I test just before I plan to eat a meal, then if I am over 130, take some R insulin, and again, how much. I am really getting serious about this, and would appreciate some good advice. Thanks

55-year old woman, insulin-dependent for 10 years, living in my home. Blood sugar ranges from 200 to 450 with recent spike over 600. Serious vision issues, neuropathy in feet, some bladded disfunction. I feel somewhat responsible for her since she lives in my home, but don't want to treat her like a child. Makes me nervous tho when she drinks non-diet sodas and eats sugary foods. She says it's ok as long as she takes her insulin (30 mg twice a day). Should I just leave her alone or use some tough love?

There's supposedly a greek painting (I'm not too sure who the artist is) maybe done sometime during the 1500's or 1600's that is of a skeleton that is on a bridge urinating into water. The painting is supposed to represent Diabetes Mellitus. The painting may or may not have the following words "diabetes mellitus, tissue in the body turn to urine". I think this painting may be in a museum in London. Could you find a link to that painting on the internet? Or post an image of the painting here? I've been trying to find this painting/image and haven't been able to, anything would help!

Say if I drink 2 sodas at 6:30 p.m., will that affect my fasting blood sugar level the next morning??? I'm not diabetic, but I took my blood sugar level this morning and it was higher than it usually is. I have been sort of monitoring it since my Mom has diabetes AND I have a glucose tolerance test tomorrow a.m. Hoping by not eating sugar today it will be lower tomorrow a.m. It was 98, which is still not diabetic, but higher than it normally is. I know under a 100 is good, but 98 is too close for comfort for me!

have the same problem and if so, what do you do about it because I never craved sweets until my doctor put me on diabetic medication and told me I had diabetes when I only had a 160 one morning. I know that is not good but is more hyperglycemic. Could the medication have made me develop diabetes? Please help. I would like to see those of us with diabetes form a diabetics anonymous group.

Ok, bare with me. My fiance is a type 2 pump user. She is in very good shape/ health. Not heavy, not a junk food eater. However. She has alot of problems keeping her levels "stable" She is also on symlin by the way. Setting aside possible over-insuling or under-insuling, can someone reccomend a daily routine of food that will help her? I am a health nut, and it's my opinion if she just regulates her eating habits some, she will be more stable.

Thanks..

Suppose you were stranded on an island and ran out of bottled insulin. How would you get it? Could you extract it from wild animals? If there were no animals but other people on the island, would you kill them to get a supply of insulin? Could you extract insulin from a living person? How would you do it?

He is only 32 years old and he began to get ill. He is also a diabetic and he has hypertension. He still functions like he used to but I am afraid that it is not beneficial to his health and he says he is fine. If I ask his doctor I'm afraid that he will become offended.
