It's not always. Those who think it's because of chocolate or food are misinformed. Type 2 diabetics, especially, can have a much easier time controlling their diabetes if they take steps to change their lifestyle, eating right and exercising, maintaining or achieveing their ideal weight. Many times this is enough to enable their bodies to begin functioning the way they're supposed to. In type 1 diabetes it's much harder. Insulin is a poor substitute for a working pancreas. You can give injections or use a pump, eat exactly the way you're supposed to and still have problems with highs and lows. When the pancreas is working as it should, insulin and glucagon is released as needed to keep the blood sugar from rising to high, or falling to low. We can inject insulin, but it doesn't work only when it's supposed to, like a pancreas would. In type 2 cells are not responding to insulin so glucose is not able to get in. Insulin is like a key that allows glucose and other nutrients to enter but for reasons not completely understood, the cells do not respond to insulin produced so glucose can't get out of the bloodstream. Type 1 and 2 are completely different diseases and unlike a type 2, type 1's can not just eat right and exercise and get better control.

It is hard to control only if you lack the discipline to follow strict diet plans and other instructions by your doctor eg. keeping stress down.
Nevertheless, it is best to prevent diabetes from developing in the first place.

It's hard to control because there are so many factors. The biggest factor is the human desire for junk food that makes blood sugars go whacko. It takes discipline to control it with diet and exercise and most of us like a vacation from diet and exercise occasionally.

its eating what you want not taking your meds and lack of exercise. stress can cause a brittle diabetic to become depressed and make your diabetes even harder to control.

It is not always with proper diet, exercise and care. I have several friends with diabetes who are keeping it under control very easily. Call me and I will tell you how. 205-425-8586

Because blood sugar levels are not
constant. It's like chasing a 2 yr old

It can be easy if the right diet, exercise and medication program are used. When it's first diagnosed, it can be hard to get everything right, and can take a while to learn how to control your sugars and to get all the medication right. But once you learn all that and what to do if a problem arises, it gets much easier.
