My husband, insulin dependant, want to stop drinking diet sodas because he wants to avoid artificial sweeteners and, after drinking diet coke all his life, he's having a heck of a time finding a beverage to replace the diet soda. He's open to ice teas, has tried some, but is there anything else out there that might take the place of the diet soda? Or come close? I think he's after the bite that soda gives. Thanks to all!

If he's wanting something he can drink a lot of but doesn't contain artificial sweetners his choices are very limited unless he's willing to add carbohydrates. One thing I like that gives some fizz is Club soda with fruit juices and even pureed fruit like berries. There are extracts in the spice aisles that with just a drop or two will enhance the flavors of the club soda and juices so that you can keep the carbs down. If he doesn't like fruit...??? Tea, Coffee, water...with lemon maybe?

I saw my endocrinologist this week and asked about diet sodas. He told me that as an insulin-dependent diabetic, I had to view sugar as poison. He said that a couple of glasses a day of diet soda would be infinitely better for me than than any sugar-laced beverage.According to him, diet soda is by far the lesser evil.
I have the same problem as your husband in that I'd love to find a sugar-free beverage to replace the diet cola, but so far have been unsuccessfull.
