Yes it is related to your diabetes, specifically your blood sugar control. When your sugars run high, you are more likely to get it. If your doctor approves take acidophiles on a daily basis. It will help control the bacteria causing your problem.

I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but diabetes is like a time bomb. I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 in my early 20s. I always kept my A1C around 5.5 and by my 40s I had developed severe hypertension, coronary artery disease, and end stage renal disease.

Be careful and do everything within your power to control your diabetes. My mother and both my grandmothers died of complications of diabetes at an early age. I refuse to give into this disease.

If you have access to and endocrinologist or a diabetes center, take advantage of the services they offer. Diabetes Management is an excellent magazine and there are numerous websites devoted to diabetic care. Make yourself familiar with the disease and aggressively fight it. Many primary care physicians still use "old" treatments. Remember, you are the MOST important member of your care team. Know and understand everything you are doing.

I was diagnosed in 2001 also; I'm over 50. My dentist said my diabetes made my dental problems worse; 'diabetics are little fungus factories' - he prescribed EsterC, Mega-B Stress formula, Folic acid in huge doses, fish or flaxseed oil caps, chromium, ala, magnesium AND a regular multi-vitamin. He is also diabetic and is a holistic medicine practitioner as well. Of all the doctors I had gone to with my problems (I had a HOLE in my tongue, and my gums bled constantly, my mouth was raw, couldn't eat ANYTHING with spice, acid, etc.) he was the only one who looked at it and fixed it. One even suggested 'try salt water' - and he had a plaque in his office stating he was one of the '10 best dentists in Texas' - which scares me for Texas! I haven't had a yeast infection or fungus in my mouth since I started with those vitamins.

Chronic yeast infections, candida, thrush and vaginal, are a way of life for me. I also have hypertension (high blood pressure). My skin scratches very easily, I'll be out gardening and suddenly notice I have these scratches like a tiger clawed me but it's just from bushes that I came in contact with... or I'll be playing with the dog and suddenly notice that the dog accidentally scratched me.

I still have problems with the thrush and candida but the vaginal yeast infections finally cleared up after I got my blood sugars under control.

I was diagnosed in 2000 but think I had it for many years before that. I am 42 and have problems with blood pressure, cholesterol, vision and circulation.
