I know that it depends on usage and that everyone is individual but do you know in general how long they are supposed to last? I had a total hip done in Feb and just had a TKN (knee) done 6 weeks ago. I'm doing VERY well for a knee replacement and I'm VERY happy about that. But I never really asked my doc(s) about how long they work till they wear out requiring revision surgery. I've HEARD from 10-20 yrs but is there something more exact out there? I'm female, 44, osteoarthritis, hepc, asthma, and bipolar if that helps. Anyone? Do you know? Any serious replys (or guesses!) are greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks a bunch in advance.

A 19 year old Male Graduated 1 year ago, Played Football and Wrestling all 4 years. He goes to the Hospital with a Cough and Chest Congestion. The Doctor Diagnosis Bronchitis prescribes him Steroids, Antibiotics, and an inhaler. 2 Days Later he goes back to the Hospital Emergency Room for Abdominal Pain, Vomiting, and Diarreaha.which happen to be side effects from the antibiotics. The Doctor Diagnonis a Bladder Infection (he said that was causing the earlier symptoms by putting pressure on his bowels) he orders a cathater and keeps him over night. 5 hours later a nurse calls his parents at home. they took him to C.C.U because he was having touble Breathing. 2 Hours after that he Dies of an Enlarged Heart. Turns out he was given Morphine for Pain, had an allergic reaction to it, was given 2 doses of Narcan to counter it, his heart rate jumps to 200, then was given something to slow it down, it slowed to 45. the time period from Morphine til Death was 6 Hours. what Happened?

I have tried drinking a lot of vitamin C, it helps the sore throat but the coughing won't stop. This happens to me almost every year. This year, it's so bad that when I choke on water I can't breath when coughing and then tears stream out from my eyes. And when I find something funny, I start coughing for half a minute or so. Is this a throat problem that can be cured?
But I don't have any problems when talking or singing.

any professional advice is graciously appreciated.

Considering both are statin drugs, is one better than the other? My sister's doctor said Zocor is not good because it affects the kidneys. Is that true?

Ok--about a week ago I had really bad pain in my left kidney. It went away in a couple of days. Now- I feel like I definitely have a bladder infection or UTI. I am running fever and feel totally fatigued. Are all these symptoms from a kidney infection?? If so-why dont I have pain in my kidney anymore? What could be going on---I'm worried. I plan on calling my doc Monday.

Me and my wife were told that our three month old daughter( she was born 1 month premature) might have whooping cough. I say might because one doctor said yes another said he wasn't sure and another said she had it but it was okay, and none of them precribed any treatment. We have already seen three doctors over this and still no results, we don't know where else to turn.
Our daughter's symptoms are: coughing until she vomits, she can't sleep, she won't eat, when she does sleep or eats she coughs until she wakes up or vomits what she just ate, and she has a lot of snot, coughing it up and runny nose. we have given her decongestant cough medicine but nothing helps.
If anyone can give us answers or even some helpful advice, maybe what to do next, we would be very grateful.

I'm female, 14, asian. Healthy, I guess...I can run a mile without stopping. The past few weeks, I have this pressure on my chest. Like a muscle's flexing the unflexing really fast. I'm really tired, I feel sort of sick. I have a really bad cold, and I sneeze more than 12 times in an hour. My pulse would be fast one second, then slow the next and I'm just sitting down reading. Then, there's also pressure on the left side just right above the ribs. Sometimes I start to feel it in my arms, then on my back. I have no idea if this is all related, but I have been extremely healthy for the past 14 years, evre since I was born. I don't want to tell my parents just in case its nothing. Usually, when this happens, it passes by within a week. This one, I can't ignore. Oh, and I can feel my pulse on the left side above the rib just standing or sitting still without touching it, and I can feel the pulse in my ear. Anyone? please? I'm not exagerrating anything.

He contacted Mrsa after hip replacement surgery. It tested in his lungs but he never did get ill from it. He has been on antiobiotics. It's been months and none of us has gone around him because we have small children and were afraid of contracting it. He has had the nose swab tests done and it always comes back positive. Will he ever test negative?

He's elderly and we want to be able to visit but our concerned with the chance that we or our young children will contract it.

I've heard the first time you get stung by an insect, like a bee or wasp, you'll have a normal/mild reaction, even if you happen to have an allergy to the venom. It's the SECOND time you get stung by the same insect that your immune system goes haywire and makes an allergic reaction. And each sting after that, the reaction is either the same level, or worse.

Is this true, or is it possible to have a semi-bad reaction the first time? I'm just curious, because when I was stung by a wasp, I had a normal reaction, nothing allergic. In fact, it was extremely mild! :) At first I was pleased, but then I realized that who knows? I might have a BAD reaction the second time. Is there ANY way to predict, or any clues after the first sting, that you're going to develop an allergic reaction next time? (I don't like the feeling of playing Russian Roulette!)

For what it's worth, I have no allergies to medications, latex, chemicals, etc. Just raw pineapple and raw walnuts!
