I have suffered the worst this year since 1999 and I can hardly sleep at nights. I am doing my A levels and it is a nightmare! I have tried EVERYTHING! I take piriton, zirtek, anti-hayfever tablets, doctor-prescribed anti-histamines, I bought a very expensive air filter, hold a cloth over my mouth, wash my face all the time, got steroid injection which hurt like hell but didn't have any effect whatsoever... I'm in despair! It is making my life unbearable.... my eyes are swollen and itchy, my nose red, I feel sick and find it hard to breathe at night, and my throat is constantly itchy and I have scratched it with my tongue so much it is inflamed and I still scratch it in my sleep. I just don't know what do do... I feel it is affecting my performance in my exams....

My son has an initial infection of herpes simplex virus type 1 (cold sores). He has multiple sores in his mouth - tounge, gums, lips, throat. Our local rural health aides have advised us to scrub all of his sores with either salt water or water with baking soda. They told us to scrub until it bleeds. I was wondering if this was necessary. We also dab his sores with a one-to-one mixture of maalox and infants benadryl for numbing.

It seems like nothing big has ever been cured, we just keep adding new diseases. Being diabetic, I thought this would be an easy cure because if your pancreas doesn't work islets of langerhorn can be injected into your pancreas and work to produce insulin. Problem is rejection by the body and taking pills to prevent rejection. It's like being right on the doorstep of a cure for one of the most common diseases in this world and sitting there waiting waiting waiting.

Now, I strongly believe that curing something like diabetes would take billions of dollars away from your major drug companies and also prolong the lifes of many millions. I believe that the powers that be would not want this.

My question is, has anything been cured in the past 100 years which is a disease? Does anyone know of any promising diabetic research?

Had the illness for 10years and am only 36, it has changed my life dramatically! Unable to work, socialize, pursue a relationship amongst other things! Tried every health product, read lots of books, tried so many different things to get well! I do know alot about cfs and attend a support group monthly. I am at the stage again where I am fed up! Changed diet & exercise, nothing is working, pace myself. Know heaps about the condition but I seem to be deterioating and if worse comes to worse will have to enter a nursing home and give up my independance which is the last thing I want. Hopefully someone out there can help me somehow as Ive tried doctors, alternative medicines, vitamins, yoga, diet, lifestyle! You name it, lve tried it and am sick to death of wasting my time when there is no improvement. Counselling is good for some but as soon as the london scientist come up with a blood test to diaganose it and medication to treat it - I just have to hang in there, like everyone else!!T.C
