Its still there. Nasty is really an understatement. It can potentially kill you within 24 hrs because it spreads so fast. The major problem with it is that is it fairly rare and when it first starts it look like a regular skin infection. If the doctors are not thinking about it and just sends the person home on oral antibiotics, the patients can easily get into trouble fast. It need to be treated fast and aggressively.

It's still around. My brother actually got it back in 1994 (he's 20 now). He got a small cut in his knee when he was helping my dad knock down a block wall, and somehow the virus got into it. Luckily my mom and brother went to the doctor in time and he was treated with some antibiotics. Our doctor said if he would have waited even a few more days it could have severely ate through his knee skin and continue eating the muscle and skin.

Its pretty rare so there hasn't been a major case in the news for a while.

But when one pops up, you can be sure that some channel will scare all of us and send us running to Savons for antibacterial soap/lotion/cleanser.
