I want to know how I can make a homemade kite that can fly really high but in a light breeze. I don't have any sticks or wood for the structure, but I have plastic straws (will that work?). What are suggested materials? I just want simple directions using materials that any household should have, such as plastic bags or cloth or paper.

The more details the better. (like how long should the tail be, etc)

I recently found a book on sewn Smocking designs (didn't know this technique existed & have been trying to create something similar for a tanktop bodice)
:Question #1
Would the completed product be stretchy, or would it have no give? It appears in the examples that a smocked piece of material would stretch considerably, as it has lots of tight gathers...
Question #2:
Has anyone ever used this technique, & is it as difficult/time-consuming as it looks? The end result is lovely, but I really don't want it to take weeks to finish a small piece. Thanks!

A few days ago it worked fine, then one time I lit it and a small metal bit underneath the flint was seen to be moving and this jammed the flint from moving at all.

Now that small piece of metal is gone and it wont spark anymore. What can I do now?

What are some man made mechanical (non electronical) gadgets/devices that open like a flower, as in, it starts out curled in (the bud) then expands outward (the pedals).

Thanks this really helps.

Can you only use like some Elmer's Glue to do this with, or do you actually need special supplies? I saw a couple of people using Elmer's glue so that is where I got the idea that maybe you don't have to use special stuff to do that...anybody?
help!

thanks!

I work at a bank and handle money daily but the other day i came across a 1929 Federal Reserve Bank note of $20 in pretty much uncirculated condition. It has bout a 3 millimeter tear on the bottom but thats it. It has a red seal and Bold "E's" over the bill. It seems that a bar on the bottom of the note is covering i think the word treasury. On the top under "the united states of america" it seems that in the same ink of the "E's" "or by like deposit of other securites." Ive looked up info on the internet but cant come across one similiar to that i have. CAN ANYONE TELL ME MORE INFORMATION please. I have some idea of its worth but still and not sure since its in near perfect condition.

Say for some reason you are "trapped" on a rainy day with 6 kids (not all yours), ages 6 to 12, in a rented cabin. It's furnished & supplied with basic supplies including cooking ingredients. What kind of paint, clay or other art item could you make with household stuff?

I made a vest for my husband's wizard costume for the final book release party. I don't want to use a standard button or zipper closure. I'm looking for something unusual and/or clever to help add to the quirky wizarding look we're going for. Maybe something like a frog closure but not a standard frog.

Thanks in advance!

I want to make a no sew poncho, but not with fleece as I will be around open flames on occasion. So I thought wool felt would be a great option...but I have no idea where to find a good selection of wool felt fabric meant to be used as clothing or outerwear. I find lots of arts and crafts web sites but I want a thicker, higher quality felt. Anyone ever used wool felt for this purpose, and where can I get the fabric?

I have been saving all sorts of glass jars and I've been learning to stencil on them. My idea was to make pretty jars in sets (three different sizes per set) and to fill them with fun stuff and give these away as small gifts. The stenciling part is fun and I'm getting better, but my problems is -- when I fill the jar, the stencil doesn't show up!

I mean, if I put something like Vanilla Sugar in the jar, that works well, but if I fill it with candy or pet treats -- the treats are colorful and then you can't see the design I stenciled.

So what can I do to the INSIDE of the jars, so that the decorations on the outside show up? I don't want to PAINT the inside because I put food in there.

Any suggestions?
