Things that open like a flower?

What are some man made mechanical (non electronical) gadgets/devices taht open like a flower, as in, it starts out all curled in (the bud) then expands outward (the pedals).

an old fashioned vegetable steamer.. It has stainless steel panels that have holes in them and you put the veggies inside close the side they kinda resemble petals and it closes tightly like a bud... put in pot with a bit of water and it steams...
