Ok... this year im staying in Japan. And I was recently at a friend's house for dinner. I guess she was trying to be nice becuase instead of rice and chicken she made "pizza". Afterwards I made the remark that it wasn't like American Pizza and so, I told her I would cook some. The problem that I have run into is that she lives in a traditional Japanese House and that means she has no oven. But, she has a microwave. Is it possible to cook pizza dough into decent crust in the microwave?

If possible, provide a website.. if not thats okay.

My dad is insistant on believing that cucumbers come from pickles... where the rest of the world KNOW that pickles come from cucumbers

Thats why everywhere but the US + CAnada call them "Pickled Cucumbers" and not "pickles"

Right?

Well this whole thing started..when..
My dad bought some dill relish.. and hes like "yuck! This dill relish tastes like cucumbers.. They probably used older pickles in making them!"

And i said "...Dont you mean.. like.. younger? Or not sat in vinegar long enough?"

And hes going on about "zlol! no! Young cucumbers are pickles! You dont use big cucumbers for making pickles! When they are little you use them for pickles.. when they are older you use them for cucumbers! Thats why pickles are small and cucumbers are big!"

So someone tell me the truth behind pickles and cucumbers. Does it REALLY matter how big the cucumber is to make pickles? Or whatever cucumber you pickle becomes one??

(I do really mean cooking, not just microwaving ready meals or really basic student cooking - its really hard trying to divide recipes that are designed for 4 or 6 people!)

Thanks

I am throwing my husband a NHL Red Wing themed dinner party. I am trying to think of ideas for the table and decor. Sometimes themes can take on a "child like" feel, and I want it to be clearly for a grown man. I thought of using a white tablecloth (because it is white, will be able to use it for more than just this occasion) and putting hockey pucks on the table with tealights as a center piece. I am still thinking though, and am just not sure. Any ideas on how to create a hockey themed dinner party? What kind of decor should be used? Is a hockey cake too juvenile? Or maybe the cake should be more simple?

Our oven isn't working but we have a range that we can use to cook on. I need a good recipe for something I can make on the range..anything I can make on the range (i'm tired of hamburger and tuna helper)...I'll even take a desert recipe, considering there aren't many deserts that I know of that you can make on the range....Any recipes would be great!

Made some homemade fig/strawberry preserves for the first time. Too runny still. Already jarred. Is it possible to re-cook them and add more pectin to make it thicker? Lotta work at stake here.

Or will it stay good w/out refrigeration at all? What if they were in one of those cloth coolers? Is there any alternatives that will stay good for a while?
