Or will it stay good w/out refrigeration at all? What if they were in one of those cloth coolers? Is there any alternatives that will stay good for a while?

Raw burger should not go without refrigerating unless you are going to cook it within say an hour or so from the store cooler. Cooked without refrigeration can be dicey and you might get by with it over nite, but that really is pushing it. Use an ice cooler and you can get by with it for a couple days as long as you keep the cooler stocked with fresh ice.

I would say not long at all, should be refrigerated, until ready to cook and then cooked as soon as possible. I am not an expert but have seen people leave their ground meat out or in a cooler it began to turn brown. not a good thing.

Is it frozen or unfrozen? If it is frozen, quite awhile. If it is unfrozen I wouldn't let it stay out too long. You can smell the meat before you cook it. If it smells bad, my suggestion would be to not eat it. If it doesn't really smell like anything or just has just a hint of a bloodlike smell, it's probably ok. Are you taking this on the trip with you? Could I suggest one of those coolers you can pull behind you? LOL

uncooked ground beef needs to be refridgerated. you don't want it to spoil. if it's cooked already, it can be out for a few hours but not much longer (ie, if you're having a party and it's meat for taco's, burgers, etc.)

you can get very sick from food that is out too long or not refridgerated at all.
