One of my children loves pork fried and shrimp fried rice from Chinese restaurants. My attempts to cook this at home have been completely unsuccessful. The canned "Chinese fried rice" which I bought at the grocery store was even worse. What is the secret? I hope it's not MSG. What variety of rice should I use?

I would like to be able to cook the fish so that all the flavour goes into the soup, but any remaining scales and bones remain in the bag so I don't have to constantly pick them out of the veges!

Last week I made Alton Brown's "Nutty as a..." That's the name of the recipe; it's a fruitcake. I don't care for the stuff myself; it's a gift.

After baking, you are supposed to sprinkle the cake with brandy every 2 or 3 days and keep it wrapped in plastic and foil. I made it a week ago and have been sprinkling as directed, but the cake is getting pretty sticky. Am I being too liberal with the brandy or is it supposed to do that? Opinions please, from the fruitcake loving crowd.

I am asking this because I feel that there are too many calories on certain foods and I want to know what you think.

For example, I thought a whopper burger with cheese has 300 calories when in fact it has up to 800 calories. Or a slice of pecan pie i thought has 200 calories when in fact it has 500 calories.

My point is do you think that certain foods contain more calories than you think?
