Start with a cookbook for beginners, and make some recipes yourself. If you know someone who is a good cook, go and cook with them -- watch and learn (and help a little, too). Try also watching cooking shows, like Food TV or cooking shows on PBS if there are any on in the area where you live. Read about food and cooking in a food magazines -- Cooking Light or Bon Appetit, Martha Stewart or the like. Reading recipes will help you acquaint yourself with techniques and lingo. You could also take cooking classes at a Whole Foods or other establishment. Cooking is lots of fun -- a skill that will be a source of fulfillment for many years. Enjoy & good luck!

As ong as you read and read carefully, you can cook! The old standard, Joy of Cooking cookbook has a wealth of "how-to's" and should be the bible for a beginning cook. Then you can also watch cooking shows! But you have been goven good advice to start small with things you like to eat and then advance. You might even just buy a box of Bisquick and try the recipies on the box to start. Really simple! Have fun with it!

I love watching the Food Network. I have learned alot. I also learned from Home Ec when I was in school, my mom, and my husband. You can look for cooking classes or schools in your area too.
