Am doing a halloween/birthday party for my son (10) his friends and some adult friends. Foodwise, do you think I should do traditional party food with some halloween twists or just something in the oven, like a meat stew and a curry? If it's party food can anyone suggest some spooky ideas?
Ideas so far include...

jelly hands made in rubber gloves (but would they taste bad?)
eyeball cakes
ghost cakes

I'm sure someone has some fab ideas = )

What should I cook when my fiance comes to stay?

My fiance and I have been having a hard time. We've been forced to go to different universities because we couldn't find 1 that did the courses we both want to do.

Anyway, he's coming to stay with me for a few days next week and I want to cook something really special but I don't know what.

The fact that Im a student means that I have a tiny budget too.

Any help would be great.

Is it cheaper to make wheat and white bread at home or to buy it from the store?

When a recipe calls for fresh thyme, should the stem and all go in or should only the thyme leaves be used?

I found a wonderful recipe for Roman-style chicken which calls for fresh thyme. Once purchased, I found the thyme is on miniature branches, like rosemary. For those of you that you cook with fresh thyme, do you include the stems or do you remove the leaves from the stem and use only the leaves?

What is the best way to cook a steak, not using a grill.?

I have a steak to cook my boyfriend. I think he has a broiler at his house, but if not, should I fry it or bake it? Any tips? I usually only work w/ ground beef, and never have tried cooking steak.
