"An eight-passenger sport utility vehicle, the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid from General Motors Corp, won the "Green Car of the Year" award at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Thursday.

The Tahoe Hybrid will be the first full-size hybrid SUV on the market when it goes on sale in early 2008."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071115/bs_nm/autos_greencar_dc

The Tahoe hybrid is supposed to get about 21 mpg, roughly a 10% improvement over the regular Tahoe:

In fact, the Tahoe hybrid won't even get any better mileage than the regular Tahoe on the highway:

Smaller non-hybrid SUVs already get better mileage, such as the CR-V at 23 mpg

What do you think about an SUV with 21 mpg fuel efficiency being named 'Green Car of the Year'?

We’ve talked to many people during our 37 years in business, and we’ve found that one of the biggest barriers to using a natural product is the perception that it won’t work as well as a traditional one.

That’s why we’ve focused so much on research and innovation here at Tom’s—to ensure that our products are not only natural, but effective too. Let me share two examples!

We first earned the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance in 1983—the first natural brand to carry it. (We have the Seal on some of our toothpastes and mouthwashes and on our floss.) We even successfully proposed a new protocol to replace their animal testing requirement!

More recently, our research team, which includes dentists, researchers, and herbal experts, learned that hops has strong odor-fighting potential. So it was added to our Long-Lasting Deodorants, making them even more effective.

Before u ask me i walk to the local shop most of the time, usually throw on a sweater instead of turning the heating on, use low energy bulbs, recycle and try to save energy where possible.

WHY would the CO2 we emitt (30,000,000,000 tonnes per year) not have a greenhouse impact on the earth climate?

Without CO2, the Earth surface would be at an average temperature of -18°C (0°F). So how can we possibly add 20% CO2 into the atmosphere and the carbon cycle without causing a global temperature increase?

What offset (according to you) the effect of this additional CO2?

It’s already begun. Business will drive toward change because the cost savings makes alternative energy sources so much more profitable. How long will it take for developed nations to change?

2007-11-15 02:49:46 · 5 answers · asked by Jerbson 5 in Green Living

Recenlty I spoke to a friend studying engineering and he told me that the greatest cause of global warming is the production and consumption of electricity. He told me that if this is the case, then, cooling the Earth would be much more complicated than just switching to alternative energies and reducing CO2.

If anyone has any data and scientific research to back up their answers would be great. But, the important thing is that we really figure out what the problem is, so we can make sure we solve it the right way.
