The benefits of wwitching to surgar cane are far better than that of corn ethanol. It produces 8 times the amount of ethanol, and is releasing 80% less pollutants than corn ethanol. Plus, it will cost alot less than the current gas prices.
The main benefit, and my primary question, is how do we get around the corn farmers from suffering? Subsidaries, or is this not possible?

There have been dozens of questions in Y!A the past few days about John Coleman's comments regarding global warming. Basically he claims the whole thing is a massive scam. Coleman is the founder of The Weather Channel, so people seem to think he's a credible source of information (even though weather is entirely different from climate).

Here is The Weather Channel's official position:

"More than a century's worth of detailed climate observations show a sharp increase in both carbon dioxide and temperature. These observations, together with computer model simulations and historical climate reconstructions from ice cores, ocean sediments and tree rings all provide strong evidence that the majority of the warming over the past century is a result of human activities. This is also the conclusion drawn, nearly unanimously, by climate scientists. Any meaningful debate on the topic amongst climate experts is over."

Is it possible to know a ballpark estimate on setting up the manufacturing plant?

Thanks in advance.

When do you think flooding will be a huge issue in the US...like.....when do you think a lot of cities will go under?
Do you think it will happen suddenly.....or gradually?

At first they predicted it 100's of years from now....they changed it to only 100 years from now.....then they changed it to 50 years from now...and global warming is speeding up. How soon will this acutally happen?

And WHERE first????

I am doing a forum for my school on global warming, so, can someone please tell me the effects on global warming and also explain what the effects do to the planet. For example:
WARMING WATER
Consequence: more powerful and dangerous hurricanes
Warmer water in the oceans pumps more energy into tropical storms, making them more intense and potentially more destructive.

And you can explain more if you wish.

Thank you for your co-operation

It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an illusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the “research” to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild “scientific” scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmentally conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minute documentary segment.

I do not oppose environmentalism. I do not oppose the political positions of either party. However, Global Warming, i.e. Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you “believe in.” It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won’t believe a me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it.

I have read dozens of scientific papers. I have talked with numerous scientists. I have studied. I have thought about it. I know I am correct. There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril. I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter arguments by the high priest of Global Warming.

In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious. As the temperature rises, polar ice cap melting, coastal flooding and super storm pattern all fail to occur as predicted everyone will come to realize we have been duped. The sky is not falling. And, natural cycles and drifts in climate are as much if not more responsible for any climate changes underway. I strongly believe that the next twenty years are equally as likely to see a cooling trend as they are to see a warming trend. See John’s full blog story here.. See John’s forecast blog on the KUSI site here.

John Coleman is a meteorologist and weatherman from San Diego who has been in the field for 55 years -
http://icecap.us/index.php/go/joes-blog/comments_about_global_warming/ - and he is also the founder of The Weather Channel. You get the picture, the guy is a poster child for credibility. That's likely all about to change for the veteran meteorologist because he decided to take on the machinery that is the Global Warming activist movement.

also, what do you think about kyoto?

we kinda seem to be stuck in a catch-22: there are no hydrogen-cars because there are no fuel stations. There are no fuel stations because there are no cars.

Are we ever going to escape this loop?

My lecturer didnt agree with global warming. As he told that now we r in beginning of high sun activity period. Release of greenhouse gases (GHG) will increase temperature up to some extent. when temperature increases then lots of watervapours will goes up and that lead to formation of massive cloud. That cloud will prevent sunlight to come down to the earth then sudden cooling will occurs. He further said that role of could is not understood yet. Can some scholars discuss on this point. Thank you.

They say if every one of the 110 million US households replaced just one regular light bulb with a compact flourescent, it would be like taking 1.3 to 6 million cars off the road (depending on where you get the info).

With that in mind, what if every US household replaced their gasoline powered car with an electric car, how many cars would that be like putting ON the road? :)

I know what global warming is and all that but I don't know much about what is being done about it, especially in the U.S. Is our government actually concerned about it. Is Bush concerned about it? What plans are being made to help stop global warming? It just seems to me like nothing much is being done on a wide scale. I'm only 15 and it upsets me because I don't want all these problems created by the generations before mine to ruin our planet. Do not enough people understand what will happen if we continue this way or do they just not care because they will be dead before it will affect them.

An oft ignored element of this discussion is the acidification of the oceans due to the increased amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by the world's oceans.

Many skeptics believe that humanity's contribution to the current global warming is minute, but what about the acidification of the oceans?

I'm getting really tired of having a new question about weatherman John Coleman's paranoid conspiracy theory rant about global warming being a giant scam every 5 minutes. I've seen at least a dozen questions discussing this article over the past 2 days.

Coleman is a weatherman. He's never studied climate science. He's never written a scientific paper in his life. Yet people act as though he's the world's leading expert in climate science, and if he says that global warming is a big scam, it must be true. Who are we going to have to hear from next - Al Roker?

So my question is this:

who's more credible - weatherman John Coleman on global warming, or conspiracy theorists who claim that Bush was behind 9/11?

Personally I think both are nutty, but have roughly equal quality in the evidence supporting their conspiracy theories. What do you think?
