Global Warming is the long term average rise in near Earth surface temperatures - basically it means that the atmopshere is getting hotter. Climate Change is something slightly different although they are often confused, CC refers to the effects of global warming and not to the warming itself.
GW can't realistically be prevented although it can be slowed down and there are various things you can do on this website http://profend.com/global-warming/pages/combat.html - check out the links to other sites as well.

Just to explain a little more: Global warming has two causes - nature and humans. In the past every warming and cooling event has been due to natural causes and the role of greenhouse gases has been an essential one in determining our climate. It's these gases that trap heat with Earth's atmopshere and keep it at a habitable temperature, they're effectively the planet's insulation, without which we'd all be dead (no greenhouse effect would mean Earth would be too cold for live to have ever evolved).
The problem is that when we increase the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmopshere the insulative effect increases, it's a physical impossibility for it not to do so.
Nature can process a certain amount of greenhouse gases each year and if we reduced out emissions to a sustainable level then all would be fine, the trouble is that we're currently producing 14 times the amount of greenhouse gases that nature can handle and all this excess is accumulating in the atmosphere (it has nowhere else to go).
To prevent any further global warming we would need to either reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases so dramatically that it would be like stepping back in time by 200 years or we need to find a) alternative energy sources or b) ways to remove the surplus gases from the atmopshere.
This is a greatly simplified explanation and omits many key points, the links above will take you to sites that explain more.

okiedokie - global warming is basically sun rays getting trapped in our atmosphere. that's the basic. But that's not all. it wouldn't get trapped if it wasnt for us. When humans give out gas emissions, e.g. nuclear power plants, gas, dumpsite rubbish, etc. are holding the sun rays in. the sunrays hit the earth, and bounce straight back off into space. but with our gas emissions and waste in the air, it's holding the sun rays in. we have also caused a hole in the atmosphere, which allows sun rays in, but not out. and that is what is causing the earth to warm up.
Ofcourse there are other things to do with global warming, as it is a HUGE thing to deal with, but that's the main body of it.
As I am soon to hopefully lead Australia in Global Warming Prevention, I will explain some great and easy ways to do your little bit in helping stop Global Warming. Every Bit Helps!
These are some BIG ideas on how to prevent global warming:
- Using solar power plants - we have too much sunrays coming in, and we're wasting energy! So this is a GREAT idea
- Making tree and pine plantation sites around the globe, and
- installing solar and wind powered energy sites into your house - yes it costs alot, but ive had solar and wind powered rooms for years, and I have a) saved money, and b) saved loads of power, and its the best thing ive ever done!
Some small ideas to prevent Global Warming are:
- Turning things off at the powerpoint
- recycling as much as you can - e.g. paper and plastics
- Schools making Recycling groups and recycling paper into bins (recommended to use SITA as your recycling bin provider), and
- Planting a tree!
Thankyou, I hope i answered your question, and please don't forget to help Save The Earth!

Probably very little other than the continued increase in use of natural gas. To the extent that investments are made for climate change, they will be in infrastructure to adapt to climate change rather than anything to address the causes. There is exactly 0% chance that the House of Representatives would approve any increased regulation, tax or price on CO2 emissions, and there is at most a 0.1% chance that the Senate will approve legislation that mandated the EPA not address CO2. = No change. More natural gas and investing in sustainable energy sources. What is most ironic is that over the past 6 years the U.S. has lead the world in CO2 reductions. That would be great, except the House of Representatives will not allow any treaty that would require other countries to cut emissions, so China has made up for all or our reductions. The problem cannot be solved without international cooperation and the U.S. is prohibited from cooperating with other nations. So, we move to non-greenhouse energy source and yet will continue to suffer the effects of global warming probably more than anyplace else in the world -- at least according to the insurance industry which has identified North America as having the most risk. Sandy showed how badly the eastern U.S. cities are in need of sea wall and other flood protections, but the costs are likely hundreds of billions of dollars. The push to spend that kind of money will be in response to the changing climate itself. We re-elected a President who believes more in federal building of infrastructure than does his opponent, but there still is no money and a House staunchly opposed to returning to the tax rates of our economically stronger decades. So most likely rather than taxes to prevent losses, we will all pay the increasing costs of repair and rebuild through rapidly increasing insurance rates.

It's the natural warming up of our atmosphere because of gases such as Carbon dioxide keeping the heat from the sun in the atmosphere. without these gases keeping in the heat, humans wouldn't be able to survive on earth.
In its natural process, global warming is supposed to be very slow. However, because of the incredible influx in CO2 and other such "greenhouse gases" (which trap the suns heat in the atmosphere): the natural process of global warming has sped up. This means climate change in a more rapid manner than what was expected by scientists to occur over 100's of years is happening over a much shorter period.
It can be prevented by decreasing our output of CO2 into the atmosphere -finding a renewable source of energy as opposed to fossil fuels (coal, oil), which let out loads of Carbon dioxide. Also, by stopping deforestation and cutting down so many trees because this only makes the situation worse- as there are less trees to absorb the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
As individuals, we can do simple but effective things. Such as raising awareness, joining group such as 'whoonearthcares.com', using less electricity (by turning off unused lights, etc), recycling (boring but very effective), installing solar panels (as a renewable energy source) or protesting. The main thing is to help people become aware of the situation because many people -like you- don't really know
Thanks for asking!

There is a thin and invisible layer covering the Earth, aka the Ozone Layer. The ozone layer prevents the sun from sending harmful and powerful uv rays from hitting us. If they do hit us, they can heat up the Earth. We cannot survive if the rays hit us, they are too powerful. If they hit ice-caps, they melt and will wash away the Earth. One of the small ways that we can prevent that from happening is not letting toxic waste fumes from omitting to the ozone layer. Hairsprays, air fresheners and air cons can harm the ozone as well. Buy stuff that is labeled no CFC's; they are supposed to be indifferent.

It is the theory that the temperature of surface of the earth is increasing in temperature due to the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
The primary way that you can prevent this is to reduce your greenhouse gas emission. Specifically the Carbon dioxide that is a result of the exhaust released from internal combustion engines.
I.e. "Drive your car less."

Global warming indicates the increased activity of the Sun that causes the Earth and other planets in the solar system to heat up slightly.
"Rising levels of carbon dioxide and other gases emitted through human activities, believed by scientists to trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere, are an effect rather than the cause of global warming, a prominent Russian scientist said Monday.
Habibullo Abdusamatov, head of the space research laboratory at the St. Petersburg-based Pulkovo Observatory, said global warming stems from an increase in the sun's activity. His view contradicts the international scientific consensus that climate change is attributable to the emission of greenhouse gases generated by industrial activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation.
"Global warming results not from the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, but from an unusually high level of solar radiation and a lengthy - almost throughout the last century - growth in its intensity," Abdusamatov told RIA Novosti in an interview.
"It is no secret that when they go up, temperatures in the world's oceans trigger the emission of large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. So the common view that man's industrial activity is a deciding factor in global warming has emerged from a misinterpretation of cause and effect relations."
AND
"Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory.
Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.
In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.
Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.
"The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars," he said.
Solar Cycles
Abdussamatov believes that changes in the sun's heat output can account for almost all the climate changes we see on both planets.
Mars and Earth, for instance, have experienced periodic ice ages throughout their histories.
"Man-made greenhouse warming has made a small contribution to the warming seen on Earth in recent years, but it cannot compete with the increase in solar irradiance," Abdussamatov said.
By studying fluctuations in the warmth of the sun, Abdussamatov believes he can see a pattern that fits with the ups and downs in climate we see on Earth and Mars. "
