Firstly tell them the truth as demonstrated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - Global warming is happening because we have been wasteful but that we can all help put matters right. Children in particular can

- Wear suitable clothing so that we do not need as much heating or air conditioning

- Walk or bicycle to school if possible rather than use a car.

- Reduce their demands for new stuff.

- Reuse old stuff

-Recycle want can not be re-used.

Children will not be freaked out if they know that they and their parents can do something to put matters right. It is not too late providing we act now and challenge those who deny the facts or simply behave cynically.

Explain that it is a phenomenon that is causing the earth slowly to warm up, which will change our weather and landscape, but that some people are working on ways to stop it from happening. The fact that it's slow and results in "change" rather than something like "disaster" or 'havoc" or "flooding" should not make a 6 -year old freak out, and the notion that it is not necessarily inevitable and that people are trying to stop it should give further comfort.

A 5 twelve months previous can comprehend what "making a multitude" is - he leaves his toys all around the room, that's a "mess" and someone ought to sparkling it. when we muddle, we are making a multitude. So recycling or reusing such issues as luggage once you flow to the marketplace is a good element - no mess. Leaving the tap operating or leaving the gentle on is using substances that would want to be saved for functional issues. it really is wasteful. it really is "making a multitude" that someone has to freshen up. i'm no longer positive those behaviors favor to be appropriate all a thanks to climate replace. it really is in basic terms good ecology, like we've been speaking about for 40 years now. in case you extremely choose a 5 twelve months previous's analogy for climate replace, you may want to say that area is chilly, and the earth's environment is type of a blanket. when we pump "smoke" (GHGs) into the air, it really is like including layers to the blankey. ultimately we will get too warm and characteristic to take the layers off. And each and every time we use electrical energy we are generating smoke because electrical energy is produced from burning fossil fuels. -- yet I have 3 (older) childrens and that i do not imagine any of them concept like this at 5. that's a variety of of connections. persist with the "at the prompt are not making a multitude" paradigm and it would want to artwork out in basic terms positive.

It's hard to explain it to them without proper background. I recommend showing your children environmental movies to open up discussion.

While An Inconvenient Truth is the standard for adults, it's just a tad dry for the young ones. Off the top of my head, the following are more engaging:

Happy Feet
Princess Monoke
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Free Willy
The Simpsons Movie

Just tell them that there are MANY scientists who do not believe that global warming will be harmful, or could even be beneficial. Be sure to give them both sides of the *coughcough* STILL ACTIVE debate.

Tell the 6 year old that the planet has cycles of warm and cold - of rain and snow - sunshine and shade - of day and night - of winter and summer. It's natural.

Just explain to them that it is something political and not scientific and that nobody can predict the weather in 10 days and cerntainly not in 100 years. Those that pretend they can don't understand the limitations of present knowledge and technology. It is sickening that left seeks to indoctrinate children in thier psuedo-religion. I hope you opt out of that.

I don't know. The whole point of the environmental movement is to explain global warming to a 30 year old and HAVE them freak out.
