Computer models by the Canadian Ice Service (CIS) including the Canadian Centre for Climate Analysis (CCCMA) and Institute of Ocean Sciences (IOS) project the Arctic ice vanishing early in this century.

But after the computer models are corrected to remove specific biases, the computer models project that the Arctic ice will decrease, just slightly and will not vanish.

I wonder why some need to raise the specter of fear? Is it just because they actually believe the world is coming to an end, guilt for being alive, or the desire to control others under the guise of saving them?

If I had it my way I would recycle or reuse almost everything but unfortunately the world (or the place I have lived) doesn't seem a enthusiastic about it as I do. Brevard County Florida has a great recycling program but they only plastic bottles or jars. Does anyone know where I can recycle other plastic containers such as plastic cups (i.e. Starbucks beverages which are #1), etc? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

According to James Hansen and The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany, the Arctic sea ice - which recently shrank by more than 20% below the previous 2005 record low - has reached a tipping point.

"as Arctic sea ice shrinks, the darker ocean soaks up ever more heat than reflective snow and ice...'I'd say we are reaching a tipping point or are past it for the ice. This is a strong indication that there is an amplifying mechanism here,' said Paal Prestrud of the Centre for International Climate and Environmental Research in Oslo."

Do proponents of the solar global warming theory really believe that this solar irradiance change:

Has caused this loss of Arctic sea ice?

Today in Yahoo News:

"By setting this goal, we acknowledge there is a problem, and by setting this goal, we commit ourselves to doing something about it," Bush said in a speech that capped two days of talks at a White House-sponsored climate change conference. "We share a common responsibility: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while keeping our economies growing."

What the heck? I thought it was something that wasn't real?

...that the debate on global warming (which was declared "over" a while back) is turning toward the more sensible? That is, the majority of posts now indicate that the global warming hysteria is being refuted by more reasoned analysis of both the contrived (hockey stick) and the misread (temperature forcing CO2 and not vice versa) data. Soon global warming proponents will be seen as members of the "tin-foil hat" brigade akin to UFO aficionados and people who swear they play poker with eight other Yeti..

Official estimates suggest there are now 23 million feral pigs in Australia, outnumbering the continent's human population of 21 million.
They are the descendants of domestic pigs which explorers such as Captain Cook released as a living larder for future expeditions.

Looking now into the issue of expansion of local power plant - A power company wanting to expand here in CT tells me that they do have a “solar powered station in Arlington, Arizona. The intensity of the sun in the Southwest allows solar energy to be a substantial part of an energy portfolio. Connecticut, with its more temperate climate, is less suited to solar energy,” but I want to find out if solar can become part of our urban skyline. Hope someone can refer me to someone who can help me in this search.

IT IS NOT CLEAN!

Do you know about the RADIOACTIVE waste they put out?

Most of the radioactive isotopes in the waste emit large amounts of radiation and have extremely long half-lives (some longer than 100,000 years) creating long time periods before the waste will settle to safe levels of radioactivity.

A half-life is how long it takes for that radiation to disipate by half its original amt.

so if its low, around 50,000 years half life, it will be radioactive for around 1/2 a million years.

Few debates on nuclear power or nuclear weapons discuss the problems of waste disposal should the power plant or missile be decommissioned. Few debates on nuclear waste disposal discuss the amt of $$$$$$$$$$$$ it cost to store nuclear waste. And you will store it FOREVER!

So how much would it cost to store 1 million tons of RADIOACTIVE waste for 1/2 a million years?

i guess this is a 2 parter!

Here is the example i read about that is current used by one UK airline.

Passenger buys a ticket to Miami
Carbon content of flight amounts to £15 ( 30 USD )
Company called "CarbonCare" then use this money to buy a manual water pump for use in India.

I beleived carbon offsetting was designed to put in place an activity where the carbon dioxide produced by this passenger would be removed from the atmosphere.

At best, i suppose you could argue that this pump allowed the owner to grow crops that would grow and remove the carbon. But its bit of a tenuois link in my view, and you could also argue the opposite that buying the pump helps promote machine dependency and further industrialise the planet.

This is not a question about if there is global warming or not, nor is it a question about whether we should buy products for other countries who might need our help.

its a confused question about the carbon offsetting system.

Enlighten me please

The state of the environment has been a hot topic in recent years. As result, more people are changing their habits to promote the well-being of the planet. (e.g., recycling, driving a hybrid vehicle, etc.)
