When scientist talk about global warning they are too serious and they talk about earth and our future and life. It is not some thing to poke fun at but it is like no thing happened.

I have never understood why republicans get so furious at folks who want to protect the environment. Rampant rages on conservative talk shows, in editorials. Anytime somebody talks about cleaning the environment, the cons go super nuts..I dont get it.

The news today spoke of a new passage that has opened (melted on its own) in the Arctic & several countries are rushing to take advantage of it. Going to put up a fuel station for ships, new mining ventures, new route for world shipping, the list goes on. No one sees the dire results from all this melting.

You see not all 'doom and gloom'. We are starting to see some of the benefits of this natural warming cycle.

"The Northwest Passage is one of the most fabled sea routes in the world - a short cut from Europe to Asia through the Canadian Arctic. "

"It says this made the passage 'fully navigable' for the first time since monitoring began in 1978."

Excellent. Should be very good for trade with the Far East. Anyone fancy a cruise?

I would like to know what can governments do to help reduce deforestation in BOTH the commercial part and for the poor farmers? I can't seem to be able to find useful detailed websites on what governments can do. For example, what can governments of developing do to help farmers who have no choice but slash and burn? or what can government's do to have sustainable mining or charcoal collection in forests? Thanks

To me, you can't honestly talk about carbon emissions without talking about the number of carbon emitters.

Unless you have been living in a cave for the past few years, it would be difficult to have not read or heard about the threat of global warming to our planet. "Life as we know it" is beyond the 11th hour and we must make some serious adjustments in our attitudes about how we conduct "business as usual". The planet can do without us, but our species can not do without Earth. As Mr. Gore has suggested, I believe it is time for all the industrialized countries to come to the Round Table to sign an enforceable treaty to significantly reduce the causes of global warming. It should be done NOW. Do you agree?

International legal experts are discovering climate change
law, and the Pacific island nation of Tuvalu is a case in point:

The Polynesian archipelago is doomed to disappear beneath
the ocean. Now lawyers are asking what sort of rights citizens
have when their homeland no longer exists.

Think about all the two-sided print papers we use everyday, and how we always only use one side, so how about all those other sides that never gets used?? they just go to waste, so we really should support the use of one sided papers!!! Go buy one-sided papers in your local store today, and save the environment.

Why is it that warming alarmist will point to something like Hurricane Humberto and say that it quickly becoming a hurricane is proof of global warming only after the fact that it did become a hurricane quickly?

If it was part of global warming, if we know what causes global warming, if we can predict the effects of global warming, this should have been easy to see coming and have warnings issued weeks before Humberto actually started to form off the coast.

But it wasn't because global warming is only accurate after something happened, as everything that happened is the result of global warming.

If global warming was real, we would be able to forecast these events many days before they happened.

More proof that this is nothing more than a money making scheme.

People never cease to bring up this comparison between Bush and Gore's homes.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.aspqid=20070913123734AAgAWkc&show=7#profile-info-7a1a4586cbdfad0a780847164818434aaa

Certainly you can argue that Gore is a bit of a hypocrite for having a large house while arguing for a reduction in energy consumption, though people often forget that this is not an argument against global warming.

However, Bush has quite possibly been the worst environmental president in US history. He's done an incalculable amount of damage to the environment while in office. Is the fact that his home is relatively environmentally friendly supposed to compensate for that? Is the fact that Gore's home consumes a lot of energy supposed to invalidate his benefits to the environment through the amount of awareness he's raised with regards to global warming?

What's the purpose of this argument?

I'm @ Borneo. Huge parts of our island is cleared for timber; environ, flora & fauna degradation. I hv a 10 he. plot that was alinated 40 yrs ago. It was 1st Rubber. Later the old trees were re-planted with fruit trees. 8 yrs ago due to EL NINO occur, >90% of the 10 yr fruit trees were burn by forest fire. Now I have some $$ for re-planting. Seeking HONEST international opinions whether I should plant:
1. indigenous hardwood trees which take 100 yrs to mature
2. Oil Palm trees for quick $ gain
My conflicting principles are to revert the land to mother nature. ie environ protection & re-juvination or commercialise.
Oil palm will give me g'tee mthly income 18 mths after planting. Efforts in hardwood trees take 3 generations to realise & along the way, contribute to environ.
Q: If I would to sell the Carbon absorbed by my trees, as envisioned in the Kyoto protocol, for EURO 65 per tree per year, will any one be willing to pay for the CO2 you have expended. email: hoenghsu@yahoo.com

Due to lack of real ice? I ask this question because it was inspired by something that me and my fiance were talking about. Anyway I suggested perhaps some sort of artifical ice but then she convinced me that perhaps that might not be a good idea and instead she mentioned the idea about maybe scientists can make some sort of floatation device. Anyway me and her both agreed that we really disliked the idea of polar bears drowning due to certain human activities that are causing global warming. Do you think that it's possible perhaps in the near to distant future for something like that to happen?

It always amazes me that global warming deniers will claim that volcanoes or natural cycles or the sun are causing global warming, as if scientists haven't considered these simple explanations.

Do deniers really think that climate scientists with PhDs are all morons?
