I get tons of junkmail and it all seems like such a waste. How can I stop companies from sending it to me?

I do not worry about the amount of bulk mail i receive. It is a function of the post office, and basically the only thing they do that generates a profit. in order to help the USPS increase their profit margin, and hopefully delay additional rate hikes for first class mail, I return bulk mail to the senders
It is not necessary to return it to the sender that sent it to you. first, I remove any papers that can be recycled, being careful to remove my name and address and putting that part in the shredder. then I make a large pile of all the forms, plastic pretend credit cards, envelopes with plastic windows, etc. in the other pile I put all the prepaid return address envelopes, you know, the ones that say postage will be paid by addressee. about once a month I start cramming all the junk into the envelopes. sometimes I like to sort through it and send the banks each others credit card offers, or the insurance companies each others offers, but mostly I just cram the envelopes as full as i can get them. then I mail them back. the companies have to pay a premium for each envelope returned. they get to pay to dispose of the junk I sent them. the post office gets some extra profit. and I get a good laugh.

Mail: Usually, if I get junk mail, I would write a letter to the company stating that I no longer want to recieve mail from them anymore, or I open the envelope, and don't bother reading what is inside it because it is junk, and I put it in another envelope and write the company's mailing address, and flip the envelope over, and in black marker I write NEVER SEND ME JUNK MAIL AGAIN!! or YOU BETTER RECYCLE THIS! and it would stop, however, if they don't, I go 311 on them and then they finally stop.

E-mail: if you are harrassed by spam mails, then consider either getting Yahoo! mail BETA which works fine for me, and filters them out nicely. Or switch to AOL, and continue using your current e-mail address, but have them automatically forwarded to your new AOL e-mail address, because What I would usually do, is go to the spam preferences, and then you type in phrases you would usually see in spam, and save them, and the AOL server will EFFECTIVELY block them for good. I have two e-mail addresses, one on Yahoo Mail BETA, and Once in a while I get some spam but it's rare, I got spam 4 times in the last year, and none on AOL because I blocked all spam, and typed in all the phrases I got in every single spam mail which I used to get 30 of a day!

If a company sends you first class mail that you don't want or is junk, then write return to sender and they have to pay for the postage. Also, some company's will just stop sending you junk if you call and ask.

According to Junkbusters.com:
"A U.S. Federal law gives you the power to stop any non-governmental organization from sending you further mail. You can download a copy or Form 1500 or ask for a copy to be mailed to you by telephoning a major Post Office in your area. Fill it out (it's very short), attach it to one of their opened letters, and lodge it at any Post Office. The form was originally intended to stop pornographic junk mail, but the Supreme Court of the United States has affirmed your right to stop any mail that you don't want. If the company continues to send you mail or sell your name they risk being prosecuted as criminals. Burnett comments that with this move ``name removal is virtually assured.'' (They will still store your name in their databases, but they are unlikely to continue renting it.)"

For their complete guide, see the link I have provided.

P.S. Here's what I do with junk mail. Shred it, put it in a blender with flour and water, take the resulting paper mache and mold it into cup holders, pencil holders, bead craft trays, and other gift items, paint them, sprinkle with glitter, and sell them at craft fairs for charity fund raisers.

sorry it can only go in your junk mail. either make a new email address or deal with what you have. yahoo does a really good job on spamming unwanted emails I don't even notice and they empty themselves too. even if you sign up for a new email you will still get spam.

Junk mail cannot be stopped, ever! Having said this, a person can get an email account that can be used whenever you contact any place you suspect will used or sell your addy in order to sell you services or objects.

You can classifiy any mail as spam and place it in that category when it comes in to your non-junk mail account. You can also click the do not want to subscribe to the email addy of the offending amiler to be removed from their subscription list.

Or you can stop using technology. Ha ha, right?

Use Outlook rather than Yahoo Mail. It has much better email filters built into it. All you have to do is create an email rule that says 'for every email from @abc.com delete from email server'. Poof, no more junk mail from that company. You don't have to do it person by person or letter by letter clicking a spam button as you have to on Yahoo.

I would think working there you would already know this.

Hmmmmmmmmm

My new yahoo account gets no junk mail whatsoever; I think that the less you put email information out there, the less junk email you will get. I just read a book about this so I guess it depends on what website you give your email address to that will determine whether they sell that to make a profit. My hotmail account however is flooded with junk

THERE ARE FEDERAL SITES WHERE YOU CAN REGISTER TO STOP BOTH E-MAIL SPAM & POSTAL MAIL MARKETING MATERIAL YOU DO NOT WANT, YOU CAN PUT A BLANKET DENIAL TO ALL E-MAIL SPAMMERS & POSTAL MAIL FROM DIRECT MARKETERS. (not just the direct marketers organization for that organization has a sort of a conflict of interest that prevents them from being able to fully enforce anti-spamming. They exist for the benefit of the Direct Marketers.)

THE FEDERAL SITES ARE BACKED UP BY SPECIFIC FEDERAL LAWS REQUIRING ENFORCEMENT OF YOUR BLANKET DENIALS, and it comes with a built in Federal Compliance site, should someone not comply they can be reported and are subject to severe penalties & possible prosecution. VERY FEW MARKETERS OF ANY KIND WILL NOT COMPLY IF ANY OF THEIR INCOME IS AT RISK IF THEY DO NOT.

I'm Sorry I didn't write the information down, because I Have seen both sites & the specific laws just today while doing a YAHOO! search.

I have been so short on time today. I have been unusually negligent.

MAYBE ONE OR SOME OF YOU READERS WOULD BE KIND ENOUGH TO RESEARCH THAT INFO & PROVIDE IT, or maybe one of you already has it.
AGAIN MY APOLOGIES.
Good luck & best wishes to you & all persons with good will in their hearts.
