You need to re-research your premise. Just because you can make statements, doesn't mean that they are true.

Back in the 1970's when the first oil embargo hit America, all I ever heard about was finding alternative ways of producing energy, well, as you see, very little has been done. No solar improvements, no wind improvements, few renewable resource improvements for energy. Hell, moonshiners have known for years that, corn can power a vehicle.

Ahem, excuse me, but - as was said before - you statement may not exactly be completely factual. See the link below that indicates how much wind power use has increased in the recent years. I think that if you do a little more research, you will find that the market is responding to increasing energy costs.

They are? Please cite references that support your claim. FYI, the U.S. as an entity consumes very little petroleum and also does very little research. Private persons, individual and corporate do most of both and while petroleum consumption is probably going up along with economic growth, I believe investment in renewable resources is increasing as well.

In every way it leads to a more unfair and possibly unstable world.

It really annoys me when I see responses like Afrattas "we are smarter than the rest of the world".

The truth is that most of the world are now looking forward for solutions while some Americans (fortunately not everyone) choose to stagnate in the past.

As you can see by the respones, it's very hard to get my fellow Americans to take energy conservation seriously. And, for the most part, I don't blame them. The auto giants and the oil giants have spend the better part of 50 years BURYING any helpful research on improving the efficiency of car engines. They need to be held accountable for their part in this issue. Until this happens, there's really no reason for anyone to conserve oil. Let the corporations deal with the fallout, since they are so willing to profit from raping the Earth.

This is getting while the getting is good; if we don't use it, China will, and they're the competition. When we're done with the oil, we'll fight to be the first to burn up all the coal. Then we'll dismantle our nukes and run our cars on their radioactive warheads.

Why do you think we saved up so many nukes?

There won't be much land left after we melt the poles, anyway. Nobody will miss the fuel when the ocean takes us all.

Although your first statistic is correct, the second one is unlikely to be so.

However, certainly our consumption increase is exceeding any R&D we put into renewables.

Time for a new President.
