I read a news article some time ago that the Japanese government requested that businesses keep their thermostats at 80-82 degrees F to conserve energy. Would we be able to do this?

To settle an argument:
My friend says that the relative humidity can reach up to 200%, but I always thought that it rained even when it got above around 50%. He also said that the air pressure had more to do with precipation than humidity, but I think humidity is more closely related because it is the amount of water in the air, thus meaning it would dictate precipation. Who is right here?

In what ways can we reuse items that we would normally throw away, have we not thought of yet? Don't you think more attention should be brought to bear on what we leave as waste during our lives? What technology can we aspire to invent that might help with ridding ourselves of garbage without polluting the environment further? Would funding recycling programs more allow more waste to be recycled?

I just started participating in my city's recycling program. The pamphlet they gave me says I can recycle "any recycleable plastic containers that did not originally contain motor oil, anit-freeze or any other hazardous materials." They don't take plastic grocery store bags though. The website for the recycling center says that they accept #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #7 plastics.
So, are zip lock baggies recyclable?

I LOVE to see science fiction come to life (this is my idea but I gladly share it and if others had the same or similar idea, COOL!)

Since it is a law of science that matter can not be destroyed or created, just converted, and 'fossil fuel" (a complete misnomer, if ever there was one!) is spewing out its remains into the air, Can't we develope a system to recapture these elements with some sort of air sweep or filter and recombine them so the gasoline can be used again and again?
I guess the process would be sort of anti-oxidation. I know that some chemicals 'naturally' combne, but under certain conditions, they won't. I just thought we should get opinions and I wondered if this is even being tried somewhere.

Any info anyone?

I once saw lake Chad on a map in elementary school, I was recently informed that lake Chad in Africa is just about gone now. I once wanted to see lake Chad, and now by the time I see it, there will be NOTHING to see. I once saw majestic pictures of snow covered mountains, I new someday I would go see those great sights for myself in person. Now the very mountains I wanted to hike and see covered with snow, is drying up with nothing but brown dirt and trickling snow patches at its best.

The generations before were so greedy, they left me and the rest of their youth NOTHING in return. They got to see and have all great things that came from the Earth, and we ARE now left with NOTHING.

This is what I and other youth have to say after seeing “An Inconvient Truth”, the generations before us only left us pictures, and that’s pissed us off because we’re deeply jealous now at them ALL.

Greenhouse gases make up less than 1% of the earths atmosphere, yet people seem to think that they cause global warming. Could someone please explain to me how such a small amount of gas can effect the whole atmosphere?
