Because American lawmakers don't have the 'gonads' to stand up to the lobbyists, special interest groups, and wealthy elitists who bribe them with campaign contributions. These sleazy politicians are nothing more than common whores, who will do anything necessary for a buck.

They don't give a tinker's damn about the constituency they're supposed to serve. The electorate only voted them into office; the real "votes" came from all those bastards who gave them big, fat checks.

The Beatles predicted it best on their "white" album:

Have you seen the little piggies crawling in the dirt?
And for all the little piggies life is getting worse.
Always having dirt to play around in.

Have you seen the bigger piggies in their starched white shirts?
You will find the bigger piggies stirring up the dirt.
Always have clean shirts to play around in.

In their styes with all their backing,
they don't care what goes on around...
In their eyes there's something lacking;
what they need's a damn good whacking!

Everywhere there's lots of piggies living piggy lives.
You can see them out to dinner with their piggy wives.
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.....

Lardass fat cats crawl into bed with scumbag politicians and no REAL energy conservation laws, or ANY other legislation meaningful to the American populace, will be passed. -RKO-

Because we live in a democracy and the lawmakers are elected by people who vote for candidates that think like they do, and most people do not want to see such draconian measures taken. Any law maker that did such a thing would loose the next election and the lawmaker who won that election would repeal the law.

If we had spent the billions we spent on the war to develop Hydrogen fuels.
We could have solve both the energy problem and the Mideast problems at one time. How can you expect Lawmaker to think about that when their only focus is on getting re-elected

I dont know about all that, but I do know the Kennedy family screams loudest about the need for alternatives AND they also are blocking a wind farm that could produce electricity for thousands of homes because it would affect their view in the big family house in MA.

If Al Gore had become president, instead of Bush, we would have someone responsible in the White House who would set a good example for our elected representatives.

Oh silly notfan... they have never had reason to pass such laws...or even think about them.

It's simple. What is important to a politician? Power. That means being reelected. So exactly how does annoying their constitutents get them reelected? It doesn't and therefore they try to avoid doing such things.

Because they get big dollar contributions from the auto industry and oil industry and no $ from the people who are trying to develope alternate sources of energy. Also these industries employ lots of americans and lots of potential voters.

The energy companies stand to loose billions of dollars if conservation laws are passed.

I find it extremely shocking that they are willing to jeopardize the future of humankind of a few bucks.
