I've studied music and piano for about 14 years, and one of my biggest pet peeves is when people call.... say.. The Star Wars Theme "Classical." Only our retarded modern society could be dumb enough to categorize 500+ years of music into one genre.

Although I have to admit I generally refer to anything before the 1940's as "classical," simply because most people wouldn't have a clue what the "Baroque" or "Romantic" periods were.

So when someone asks you, "what kind of music do you like?" Does anyone have a better answer than "Classical?"

Is it true or coincidence that some of the greatest composers of the Classical and Romantic era's such as Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, Mahler, as well as others, died after writing only nine symphonies and never finished their tenth?

I have to write about of one my favorite musical pieces. I chose an instrumental one. Here's the link:

I think there's a piano, a chello/violin? a flute? This is an Indian piece and I'm not sure what the Indian version of a flute might be? I think I heard a chello or violin but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have to talk about the piece in terms of its texture, rhythm, melody ect. and if I know about the instruments, I think it would help.

Thanks! :)

I recently took my violin out after about a year. My violin itself was fine, but my bow... When I played just a few songs, about 15 hairs were coming out. Whenever I keep using it, just for a few moments, more hairs start to fall out. Also, after just a couple minutes, my bow is already loosened and the hairs are just sweeping the strings, even though I tightened it to the fullest extent just moments before.

I know I will definitaly need a new bow, but why did this happen?

I am looking for mostly baroque pieces at the moment and I am looking for something different than the obvious. For example, no Air on the G String - Bach. I'm trying to find pieces that I might not have heard of or that are not well known. But just in case, I'll take whatever you may know of. Opera is fine too, but in line with tragedy, slow movements are best, like adagios, some sarabandes, and largos. Can you help? If you can list your favorite recordings of the pieces as well, that would be great!!! Thank you.
