It's certainly got to be better than last year's offerings.

I'm actually looking forward to 'Roméo et Juliette' and Verdi's 'Macbeth' (which I've never seen performed) and Puccini's rarely performed (at least in this country) 'Manon Lescaut.' But I'm not a big Wagner or Donizetti fan. I'll watch the HD performaces but I'm expecting to be overwhelmed by either.

So, any opera lovers out there who want to provide your two cents worth to the upcoming season.

I always loved the piano, from Mozart to Beethoven and always dreamed of being able to play Fur Elise and other classics. Unfortunately I don't have the money to purchase what I would call a traditional (grand piano) I guess. I need a less expensive alternative but know almost nothing about pianos. I see 51 key, 64 key keyboards and just want to know which one is the closet(in sound and key setup) to an actual grand piano. Also if you know of a particularly good brand that I can learn on that would be much appreciated as well. I don't want the keys to sound futuristic or electronic, I just want a keyboard that will sound as close as possible to a "normal piano". Thank you so much for your help this means a lot to me.

I asked this question once before, and got only a little help. One answer was quite helpful, but got deleted.

I am 15, sophomore in high-school.

I have decent grades. If I get As for the rest of high-school I'll have about a 3.9.

I'm thinking about being an exchange student to Germany my senior year, and graduating the previous year when I'm 16. I speak a little German.

I really enjoy writing music, but I'm not exceptionally good at it yet.

I need some advice on what the ideal path to becoming a classical type composer. education etc. How likely is it that I'll end up working at safeway?

I have been learning basic musical principles since kindergarten, and I have played the violin for 6 years. I have also played french horn and trumpet for a few years.

ANY advice is helpful. Maybe tell me how YOU became a composer. ANY advice or words at all. Thank you.

Across the U.S., classical music seems to be a slowly growing as a method to combat crime in urban cities. Just recently I read a article about how the city of Hartford, CT wants to play music in Barnard Park in hopes of getting rid of the drug dealers and hookers who hang out there. What do you think of this idea?

When I say "classical music", I mean it in the broadest possible definition.

Film score composers would count. As would all the other Avant Gard composers of the 20th century. Other composers not typically thought of as 'classical' might also qualify for inclusion. But I think we all instinctively have a good idea what the limits are.

My favorite 5, in no particular order:

Philip Glass
John Tavener
Arvo Part
Steve Reich
Pierre Boulez

I am no doubt forgetting some living composers who I also love. But the above are truly great, in my mind.

Who do YOU think are the 5 greatest living composers of classical music??

In an orchestra, each musician have the music notation of the symphony they play in front of them during the concert. So why do they need a conductor? Do they look at the conductor or the music notation?
