How hard is the piano part?
Yeaaaa, i don't play piano... i play cello. I'm just wondering cuz my friend who plays piano wants to do the schumann with me and others. just dunno if he can pull it off, and i kinda don't want to buy the music just for him to saay, omgs! this is crazy!
he played beethoven's piano trio ove the summer at camp... i played serenata for string trio by paganini. good enoughs?

I have played this piece. The 3rd mvt is in my opinion the most difficult. But the first movement is within reach for any decent pianist (and by decent I mean can play various Beethoven sonatas, chopin pieces, etc etc general piano repertoire with some degree of ease and maturity of sound/technique). The 3rd mvt would take a higher degree of technical proficiency. If you are only doing the 1st mvt and your pianist can handle standard piano (does he play beethoven sonatas? - and not just the moonlight), I'd say you'll be fine.

Schumann Piano Quintet

The Schumann quintet is one of the easiest piano quintets. That doesn't make it easy!! The Beethoven E flat trio is within reach of intermediates, and the Schumann is not. But with people who can pull it off, the Schumann is one of the few chamber music masterpieces that's really FUN to play from beginning to end.

The music of Schumann and the music of Beethoven are challenging. You can't say that one is harder than the other since they are both very different in style and in execution. You might want to start practicing the music of these composers.

the piano part is the most challenging part musically as well as technically .... has he consulted his teacher? his teacher should have a better idea of whether or not the piece is within his grasp
