i don't want any accusations of snobbery but all i hear are average musicians/singers backed by huge corporations who, frankly, aren't very good.
at the same time dedicated labels are seeing sales fall, and they're putting out music by uniquely gifted people.
i get wound up when i see the likes of all angels in the same section as cecilia bartoli, someone who can actually do it without a mic, massive reverb and some nob of a chart publicist.
forgive me if you think i'm being uppitty but since when did crooning vaguely constitute opera ?

I'm trying to do a sort of home-study in music appreciation. I've allready done Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Gershwin, Bizet, Bach, Verdi, Vivaldi, Debussy, Scarlatti, Wagner, Puccini. Any other ones I should be doing? Also If you can reccomend some good operas other than The Magic Flute, Don Giovani, Porgy and Bess, Marriage of Figgaro, Carmen, La Boheme, Madam Butterfly, and Aida that would be good too.

Thanks :-)

I have been playing the oboe for a while, but no one has ever told me how much of the reed I should hold in my mouth. Is it just the tip? Is it half of the reed? Does one adjust this embouchure to control/adjust pitch? Also, which embouchure is best for good endurance?

Any thoughts?

I heard a violin track of Jules Massenet's "Meditation" composition, and I swore I heard it in a movie or something else because I don't normally listen to classical music or opera's. Anyone know where I might have heard it before?

I need a source where i may be able to download Mozart's Funeral Song

2007-12-03 08:44:46 · 2 answers · asked by Electo Critic 2

I remember learning in middle school about the unfinished symphony, that was written on the famous composers deathbed. Please give me a link to your source, and if possible a link to either download or listen to the song.

PS> the Song was sad and the composer was sick and dying during it... I truly can't remember who it was though

I already play guitar, which I realise probably doesn't have much bearing on how quickly I'd pick it up. I'd be teaching myself, as I don't really have the time or patience for lessons.

So to people who already play, how hard would it be, and is it even feasible to teach myself?

Thanks.

I have read that Giacomo Puccini had a great-grandfather who lived in the Baroque era, who was also an opera composer named Giacomo Puccini. I am curious, so I would like to order scores or recordings of works by this composer.

This is a difficult topic to research, because if I entered "Giacomo Puccini" as a search word, I would get hundreds of websites about the better-known Giacomo Puccini. Does anyone know anything about this composer?

In the 1989 film "My 20th Century" some very beautiful and enchanting music was used towards the beginning and the end. It is a section from an early Guiseppe Verdi opera that employs chorus and orchestra. I have searched extensively on the net and even asked an opera expert, but have not been able to identify what opera this music came from.

It's Chopin's Nocturne Opus 9 No. 2....
If you aren't sure what that is you can listen to it here...

I know I've heard it before on either a commercial, a television show, or a movie.
Where have you heard it? =/

I love Mozart in general partly because his intellect allowed him to compose right out of his head. The numbers of compositions was and is astounding. His "Requiem" is very moving, but I find I stop listening once "his" part in the composition is over.

Berlioz' "Requiem" is awesome. I must have blared the third movement out of my house and car windows a hundred times. Who am I trying to impress? Who knows? But when the heavens open and the brass are sounding, y' just gotta share it with someone. Right? LOL! Even if they go, "Eww, what is that?" HaHaHaHaHa......... Poor souls. Undoubtly stuck in the second millenium's cacophony of sounds they loosely call "music." Ack. To me, the only good, culture changing musicians of recent years were the Beatles and Prince. Otherwise, it all sounds the same. Or maybe I'm just getting old.......................... Y' think?
