Hello, in about a year I will be a Spanish teacher. I have noticed in my 6 years of being a Spanish student that for some reason it is a harder class for the majority of the students or it just takes longer for the concepts to click. I am quite confident that I know the material well and can explain the material clearly on the students' level and even have good activities to practice/to learn, etc the lessons. However, there is always the few who understand the lesson the day after the test or just right behind the others. What do you think of my following grading ideas and will it be accepted by the administrators (I'm not sure if they check into this kind of stuff):
#1giving all the homework for the lesson at the start of the lesson so everyone works at their own pace and having it due after we move onto the next lesson (of course I will have some kind of assessment in class to let them know if they are doing the homework right or by doing it in advance......

Does it make you uncomfortable when you see a female student wearing a short skirt and/or a low cut top? What about when a male student has his boxers hanging out? I'm going to be a teacher in about a year. Right now I work at JC Penney and I notice that a lot of young girls are dressing like well..you know. They have the tan going, jewelry, make-up, plucked eyebrows, legs shaved, short skirt, heels, and a skimpy tank. It is a little odd feeling when the child is dressing "hotter" than the adult figure. Of course a teacher should NEVER dress like that at school but please give me any comments. Tell me if you are male/female, what level you teach at, and any specific stories you have. Thanks

Hello. I am 20 and I will be graduating in about a year. I'm going to be a highschool Spanish teacher. I'm concerned that that everyone will mistake me for a student. I'm 5'2" and I appear to be about 16-18. I know you must have the appropriate attitude to have the students under control, but does has anyone else had a problem because they are short and look a lot younger than they are?

I plan on making "logs" worth 20% of the overall term grade in my 10th grade English class. I am THINKING of just "grading" them collectively weekly. The plan is to offer 0-2 points for each set: 2 if all are completed well, 1 if all are just completed, 0 if any are missing.

I want to cover expressive logs, reading logs, writing logs, and language logs (grammar and style), which means I might have 3 one week and up to 10 the next.

This will be a starter and occasionally class work or homework.

Is this a fair system? What can I do to make it better?

It is amazing to me how many people participating in Yahoo Answers cannot properly ask or answer a question. My neighbor's 4 year old does a better job.

Did anyone cheated in school? What happened if u got caught?Do u regret it?
I have cheated(and regret it so much),alot of people cheat ESPECIALLY on homework, people ask people like did u finsh ur hwk?and if u answer yes they ask can i copy it?
I remebr i had this one teacher in algebra 1 who didnt teach, unless if a princple or someone was their. and sometimes(rarerly) if he did he would be mumbly, and voice quietish.and erase everything after he finshes writing it. also very impatient(if u ask questions he looked at us annoyily) and we had a sub alot, because he was the head of a district thingy, and always had meetings, at least once a week. so a sub would come in and teach us nothing.
and alot of people started cheating on homework(he wouldnt care, if u cheated if front of his face, also alot of people copy down answers when he reads them and turn them in a get an A+) because he couldnt and didnt teach.including me.my parents dont know english nor do they know algebra.
Did u cheat?

I teach two korean students and their primary aim is to learn and speak english fluently. I know both of them are intelligent and they are just at par with each other. My first student speaks english better than the second one therefore his comprehension is faster than the second. But he is lazy. The second one listens attentively however he is just starting on the english language. So I need to give more focus to him so he will get the lesson.

What are the best methods to make them learn? to catch their attention? to make sure that they enjoy learning?

I've been thinking about switching careers to being a teacher, but I've heard such conflicting stories about the profession. Some say it is rewarding and leaves time to pursue other interests, and others say that they spend so much time being a teacher that they don't get to spend time with their own family.

Up to now I have been having anxiety attacks about the evaluations I receive from students. I am an American and lecture in a women's university in Seoul, Korea.

Thsi semester I am teaching 2 oral communication classes (10 students and 11 students) A Public speaking class (20 students) and a reading and writing class (18 students). For midterm evaluation my students gave me the following scores:

Communication Class (90) Good score
Communication Class (74) Not Good
Public Speaking (97.1) Excellent
Reading and Writing (97.1) Excellent

Overall score 89.16 so so

I received very good, uplifting comments in 3 of the classes, but in the one communication class had 5 negative comments and one in particular hurt. "Robert is very, very strange, I do not know why you hired him, he is not qualified to be a teacher." Ooooouch!!!!!!! These evals are done anonymously.

I spent hours focused on that painful statement.

Now we are finishing and the end of semester evaluations will be coming out. I know I will do well again in my big classes, but I am not sure about the 2 smaller classes.

On our evaluation reports the University shows the average score and your own score. I was a bit below average before.

I love teaching and amongst the Native Speakers am the most qualified in experience and in having an MA TESOL.

How do I not get apprehensive, nor negatively affected by these things?

In the first eval they had not seen their grades yet.

Also, this has been a 6 week Intensive. We work morning, noon and night, we do activities with the students and take care of our homeroom. My homeroom is my Reading and Writing Class. I

The system is very competitive and if you do too bad they give you a Letter of Warning and then a dismissal. Currently, I am one of the longest teachers here (Just signed my 4th year contract) I have never received such a letter, others have. But I
love my students and some of these comments can be so hurtful.

Also, I am 3, one of the oldest teachers and it is a Women's University and students have told me that they like the younger teachers. In fact, the administration has told me that.

How do I make my mind right in this situation??

My goal is to consistently get evaluations with a 95 overall.

I do love this University as it has good standards and more motivated students than in other universities I have heard of.

Thank you for reading this

I am just hired for a middle school teaching position. Orientation (where I can find out this type of info for certain) is not until the 21st. HOWEVER, I am arranging child care NOW for my kids. The job is almost an hour away -- can I get there at 7:55 a.m. and be OK do you think? It's my first public school job, thus my ignorance.

Thanks for your serious replies!
