I teach high school sciences so I want to know:
1) math abilities
2) previous science classes taken
3) home situation - parents divorced? other children? history of abuse? These come in handy to know when a student seems to be acting things out in class.

1. I want to know about their learning styles.
2. I want to know about how much they value education.
3. I want to know about their family life.
WHY?
1. I may need to adjust my teaching style to accommodate their learning style.
2. I may or may not need to preach about the importance of education.
3. I may need to make exceptions to my rules if a student(s)is/are going through some family crisis, such as a death or a divorce.

What do they love learning about? (be it rhymes, rims, or that cute boy in fourth period)
How much effort are they willing and able to put into succeeding in my class, at school and at home?
What motivates them?
(Excellent question, by the by! An important thing to think about before they come back!)
