I live in N. Ireland, which has a MAJOR problem with sectarianism. As Im American, i grew up without this, no church in state, etc. So I have a really hard time understanding why they carry on with this segregation of children. Surely, children are not of any religion? Do you not need to be of the age of reckoning to be considered a religion? Also, all children(despite it not being legally mandatory) are urged to wear the school uniform, which means that outside of school they are still visibly one or the other.(protestant or catholic) Over the summer, a catholic schoolboy was battered to death by a gang of mostly grown protestant boys, for being catholic. Would this had happened if these boys had been educated alongside other catholics, and had been urged to build relationships with them? How many more children should die before the government here takes what i see as the most sensible action possible to move the peace process forward? Do you beleive that there is ANY benefit at all?

"... jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled, all these things I love so well..."

Did you sing this at school? And do you know the rest of the words?

This particular teacher writes on the whiteboard with red pen. My son does not seem to have a problem with any of his other subjects, consequently his other teachers write in black on the whiteboard. I am going to get his eyes tested tomorrow but I feel it may have something to do with the colour red. Has anyone ever come across this situation before?

i've noticed this thing a couple of times, when a child hits/hurts another child, the child hurt goes to the teacher, u know what the teacher says??? 'you must have done something first!!!' don't you think that is unfair?? obviously, someone must have started the fight but why the person who got hurt? it could have been the other. Why is it like this????

another thing, in primary school, theres a kid, and he's not bad. But no one lets him play in the playgroung, if he goes to his teacher and says ' no one's playing with me.'..they go ' you must make friends' and send the kid off again. do you think that is right? don't you think the teacher should arrange lil groups... so they get to know the child.....
once i read in a book, that in school there was a policy, if a child had difficulty making friends the teachers would arrange lil groups of children to play toogether, so they all would get to know each other..............

If a student does not want a traditional classroom, the student would go to a school more suitable to the student's learning style. Not all students (at any grade-level) desires the traditional classroom. If possible, a community would have schools specific to learning styles -- like classrooms, laboratories, video displays, shops, etc. The educational settings (and parents) would not need to compel a student to accept a setting when the student does not want to stay at the setting.
